Another Attempt: Give me your thoughts. I have a soffitt running around three walls of my HT (not the front). Above the soffitt is approx 8 inches of space between the soffit and the ceiling and the soffit prortudes 2 feet.

Now the question. Could I produce an effectice bass trap by building a 1 foot wide by 6" high bass trap all around the soffit area I mentioned earlier? I would use Certainteed 475 and plywood, etc. This would be in lieu of bass traps from Ethan's realtraps (I KNOW HIS TRAPS WILL WORK GREAT BY I AM TIGHT ON FUNDS).

:D

'Bass' is a pretty generic term. What frequencies are you trying to absorb?

The soffit itself is already acting as a bass trap of sorts.

Why do you think that placing absorbing at the soffit will fix the problem?

Have you mapped the frequency response in the room and modeled the results of your design? If not, your cure my make the situation worse not better.

Sounds good Ethan. I will install the rigid fiberglass. How much of a gap should I leave behind the figerglass (between the fiberglass and the wall above the soffit?
