I spent a lot of time auditioning a Denon 3805 and a Yamaha 2500 on Athena speakers. Both sounded extremely good for both music and movies and the Yamaha was not bright as everyone likes to quote. The deciding factor to me was the lousy remote on the 3805. It looked and felt cheap and the light constantly went out just as I was looking for a button, and yeah I know it can be adjusted but not long enough. I bought the Yamaha and I am very happy. I have spend weeks now listening to it and it is notable for what it doesn't do. It isn't warm, it isn't bright, it doesn't shout attention to itself, my wife summed it up as we were listening to music--somehow it just sounds right! I think the Denon would have been just as good, it sure sounded like it in the shop but I hated the remote.
