I live in the philadelphia area, and get

the Comcast HDTV package which has a side car

HDTV set top box. in addition to my digital cable box,

Comcast only carries 4 HDTV channles (HBO, SHOWTIME,

NBC, and ABC) the shows that are on FOX, CBS, and others

that are broadcast in HDTV I do not recive because comcast

doesnt carry the HDTV signal. So What i want to do is

hook up an antenna so I can recive the local HDTV signals

that are broadcast OTA. I want to hook up the antenna

into the HDTV sidecar that is provided by comcast, and take

that into my Mitsubishi 46809. Has anyone done this, is it

possible to do this, if so how.

Thanks for any help

Brad.

Although I do not have a "HDTV ready" Mitsubishi TV it's clear from the manufactures promise what I believe you have to do:

"We will engineer and manufacture the upgrades necessary so the television you purchase today can be made compatible with near-future advances in digital television and digital interconnectivity. Specifically, we promise that you will be able to have your television upgraded, at a reasonable cost, to include an off-air HDTV tuner, a cable TV tuner (for unscrambled programming), an IEEE 1394 (FireWire®) connection, HAVi system control, and 5C copy protection."

You need some sort of 8VSB tuner. The Motorola high speed data decoder "sidecar" box does not have RF or 8VSB capability as far as I know.

Hope this helps

You cannot get rid of the HDD200 and just use an over the air box. It is a different modulation from the 8VSB that you recieve over the air. I am in the same boat, I have a Dish 6000 for CBS, Fox, and ABC when the Comcast box is acting up. I used to be able to get PBS, but haven't had any luck in months on the 6000. I'm still waiting for comcast to add it.

You didn't say whether you had an STB that does OTA.

If you do not... all of the above is true. If you do and when you hook up an antenna and get a lock on all of the OTA digital broadcasts from Philly, why not get rid of the Comcrap digital stuff?

Save yourself over $20 bucks a month and get the digital OTA for free?

ABC and CBS are the only ones providing decent HD anyway.
