Anthem D2 vs Krell HTS 7.1

1707 Views 10 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  ultra 150 pilot
I am in the process of upgrading my Meridian 565 equipment. Torn between Krell's top of the line processor and Anthem D2. I have Krell amps and do little audio listening. Primarily satellite tv watching with a little DVD action.

Pros, cons or recommendations would be appreciated. Have Loewe 38 inch CRT with VGA in.

Look at Lexicon MC-12B HD and the Halcro SSP-100. HDMI is what you want. I just bought the Halcro but it will take a few days to get it fully connected, calibrated and ready to go...
cannot use HDMI. Loewe does not accept it and I just had the set calibrated. It is a beautiful picture. Need VGA in. There is no HDMI out to VGA converter in available in the market that I could find.

But you can get DVI to VGA transcoders for 200-300 bucks and HDMI to DVI adaptors are easily obtained. In theory HDMI>DVI>Trasncoder>VGA should work. (In theory ;) )

If you want a 40% failure rate and hype try the Anthem. If you want a product that actually works try:

Krell HTS7.1

Bryston SP2

Halcro SSP80*

*The Halcro has been buggy, but from what I am told the new firmware fixes this, but currently it is the best digital processor on the market.

I'm using the configuration that gblack suggested. HDMI in to my pre/pro (switching only; no processing) HDMI-DVI connector out, DVI into a Dtronics DVI>VGA converter, VGA out to my CRT FP. The key is to get an older Dtronics DVI>VGA converter as it strips off the HDCP. You can find them on eBay for $350-400.

Surprising... what is your source?

I have been using the above setup Dtronic -->Barco 808S CRT with my Anthem D2 and have been very happy with the setup.
I don't believe you can get a 40% failure rate with the Anthem D2 any longer. They don't seem to be offering that option.

Hype of course is readily available for all high end products, so I wouldn't look to Anthem as the best source for that either.
