I have tried to read through the various threads of this section but have been unable to get a reliable answer to this question.

Will there be any lower cost 60"+ 1080p LCD's hitting the market this year? Something in the sub $4000.00 price range.

To be fair, the LCD mfgs can make displays larger than 40". Some people just don't like them. The machines that make them cost about $3 billion and can make either 8 37" displays or 8 42" displays at a time, depending on which generation of machine. Since a mother glass run costs about $7500 / eight displays, to do large displays, they just get less of them. It still costs the same so the cost gets divided by a smaller number, ie $7500/4 (60 in.).

So can they do it. Yes. Can you afford it, no, if you need them under $4000. THis is a primary benefit in regards to plasmas cost of production over LCD's costs of production (having nothing to do with display performance).
