I recently picked up the Sony KD-30XS955 30" 16:9 Hi-scan CRT. I'm currently running a Denon 2200 at 480p, but am tempted to look at a player that can video scale/output HDMI. I am looking at the Denon 2910/3910 and Onkyo SP-1000/Integra 10.5 players.

I've been trying to get educated on scaling on this site, but I'm still pretty much confused (as usual). Given my CRT (mktg info on internal scaler follows), do I stand to benefit from an upscaling DVD player? Unfortunately, I do not have a local dealer and so I can't try this out myself. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

From Sony:

Digital Reality Creation™ (DRC) Multifunction Unlike conventional line doublers, the DRC Multifunction feature replaces the signal’s NTSC waveform with the HD equivalent, while doubling the number of vertical and horizontal lines. This results in four times the density for quality sources, such as DVD, satellite and digital camcorders. The Video Menu allows you to select interlaced, progressive or CineMotion™ output.
