Hi all.

My mom will probably be getting an HD set in the near future, and I'd like to get her something to go with it. On one hand, I'd like to get her a BluRay player, since she likes HD, but on the other, I'd like to get her a Tivo, since she loves TV but never gets to watch the shows she likes due to time constraints. What she DOESN'T want is a lot of clutter, so having both in one box would be a great solution.

Is anything like this even being discussed? I know there was some $2,500 unit made for Japan (I'm in the USA) with a generic PVR and a terabyte HDD... that's a bit excessive, but it's in the ballpark of what I want. I really would prefer it be a Tivo PVR, though a generic one might be reasonable tradeoff.

I'm pretty sure you won't see such a thing, with the push in the past several years for TiVo to make their own gear in-house now instead of contracting with third parties for the design and manufacture of the units. TiVo has chosen to focus on DVR and Internet streaming functionality. However, you can get BD players which are small and fully featured for reasonable prices now.

Besides, anything like that would be a horrible abomination. And with the US media industry's deathly fear of customers being able to record, you can bet transferring HD shows to BD (the main reason the DVD units had the drives, really) would be neutered or completely non-existant. And it'd be expensive.

In short, sorry to burst your bubble, but almost certainly not.
