Any budget DVD recorders that also upconvert well ?

I'm interested in buying a DVD recorder and an upconverting DVD player to use with a 720p projector. So I thought why not buy one unit to do both. Are there any, less than $150 preferably, that work well and do a nice job upconverting to 720p? I've also seen combo DVD recorder/upconverting/VCR units, so I could also transfer home VCR movies to DVD. Are any of those any good? Thanks.
