Any Chance of a Sony SCD-777ES Power Buy?

The only hitch to me is whether Sony might soon announce a $1,000 list price DSD player.
I'm thinking (hoping)that this is precisely the reason for such a low price. Although there's no guarantee that a lower-priced "mass-market" SACDP will be better than, or even as good as, the current machines. From all accounts, they're incredibly well-built.

I've also heard that people are having some difficulty getting the low price honored by J&R. A group buy might help get one even cheaper.

Some audiophiles claim the Sony SCD-777ES DSD player sounds great with regular 16-bit compact discs. Rumor has it that J&R Music World will sell the unit for $1900 less than list price of $3500. If that is the case, perhaps Mr. Bott can arrange a Power Buy for us AV Science Forum members. I'd gladly pay $1500 or thereabouts for this SOTA machine. The only hitch to me is whether Sony might soon announce a $1,000 list price DSD player. In which case, maybe it would be better to press a Power Buy on the lower-priced unit.

Tell me more about this new SACD player with a $500-700 price tag. This is getting into my budget range. I would love to add SACD to my rack, but am not going to pay $3500 fo a player with a limited number of disks out.

this is great news except for the release date next year. Maybe a $500-700 player will start to bring SACD into the mainstream, especially if this player is 6 channel instead of stereo.

Does it have to do with the user selectable filters( on the scd-1)?
