they probably will force us to watch in SD since they're too cheap to pick up TNT-HD[or too stupid...your pick]

The answer is No.

Now that TNT has its own HD channel, the days of giving away its HD feed of events like the NBA All-Star game are over. Done. Finito. Forget about it.

Regarding Comcast and TNT HD, see the multiple threads about TNT HD. It won't be happening anytime in the foreseeable future.

Personally, I'll take any HD network..even the Cooking channel.

Actually, I was wondering what new HD channels were coming that Comcast won't carry. I heard months ago about A&E HD. That would be a good one for Comcast not to carry. They won't carry TNT-HD, they won't carry Bravo-HD, they won't carry HDNET. So I guess DiscoveryHD is it for the foreseeable future. Incredible that when the HDTV explosion hits Comcast will be in last place. Too bad for us. Sorry, I rant a lot.

Comast will be adding The WB, Discovery HD and UPN. Quite simply, they have no more bandwidth at this time to add any more HD channels. They must be deciding to add channels which have the most HD content. As more bandwidth becomes available, more HD channels will be added.

The bandwidth crunch does not exist in a good number of Comcast areas. It would be interesting to identify those areas with this issue (Philly, Boston are two of them) and those that don't (S.F. Bay Area, Seattle are two of them).

However, many programming contracts have minimum subscriber guarantees which might preclude a contract being signed until the vast majority of Comcast areas all have the necessary bandwidth for additional HD channels.

Is this kinda of information listed anywhere ? It seems like some testing goes on in the Boston and New England regions of Comcast, I would expect the opposite of what you reported for Boston.

Bandwidth is a problem in ALL Comcast sytems. Boston is one of the wirst. Remebr when CBS was added and INHD2 dropped? That was because there was no room to place CBS at that time unless an HD channel was dropped. Comcast is adding too many new SD channels without dropping enough SD channels to clear up space. As bandwidth is being reserved for increasing broadband speeds, VOD and VOIP, there is not enough space for more HD channels at this time. I have been been provided with this information from multiple sources.

We have "only" 72 analog channels on our 750 Mhz system. It is about the same in most parts of the Bay Area, although some systems are still being upgraded from 550 Mhz. By my calculations, 72 analog channels + 250 regular digital channels + 11 HD channels on a 750 Mhz system leaves room for quite a few more HD channels on my system and thus most of the Bay Area.

And I know Seattle has a similar situation.

From what I understand, Philly and Boston have significantly more than 72 analog channels.

Factor in Broadband, VOD, VOIP, additional SD channels for which deals have been struck and not announced, and already struck HD deals that have not been formally announced. I doubt that Comcast will strike a national deal for an HD provider and only be able to place them on a fraction of their systems, especiallyu those with so little HD content which is why Discovery is being added before TNT IMHO.

I have no way to confirm it but supposedly Nashville is in good shape as far as bandwidth. But, thats just what I've been told and I cant confirm that.
