Hi all,

Does anyone know of any DirecTV HD receiver deals/rebates floating out there? Seems like I can only find stuff in the $250-$300 range at cc and bb. I guess I was naive to think I could get a 'free' HD setup deal when switching over from Cox to satellite.

Speaking of switching over, this change of service is absolutely killing me. My current Cox SA3250HD box sports a firewire port, making it a snap to record HD on my Mac. The only comparable thing I can find as far as satellite HD boxes is $1000+ stuff like the LST-3410A.

Are there any cheap 3rd party HD receivers that have a firewire/1394 port?

Also, I see some boxes have something called QAM... i take this to mean you can receive OTA HD without subscribing to a service like Dish or DTV?

Thanks for any info!

no HD Satellite recording via firewire (or any other way) without hacks.

QAM is used by cable providers. If you want to keep recording HD stick with cable.

The 3410A is just an OTA receiver, no sat capabilities. QAM is the method cable companies use to ship HD over cable, a QAM receiver can pick up any unscrambled channels you get, usually just your locals. If you want any of the premium channels you need a STB or cablecard still.

swartzfeger,

You need to peruse the "Note: "D*" Extends $399 HDTV Offer - Now it's $99! And more!" topic in this same forum...

Good luck..
