Any DVD players with LOCKABLE front panels?

402 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jehagain
Anyone know of any mid-to-low end DVD players with component out (and progressive scan) that has the ability to LOCK all the front panel buttons?

We have a *very* helpful 16 month old that loves to help control the DVD player.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Darryl.

16-month old? Do you have the DVD player on the floor? I know of no lockable players, even in the professional world. I think this is more of a child-proofing situation than anything.

Well, close to the floor. It's below the TV on a TV stand that has shelves below for your gear. No glass doors or anything, it's open shelving.

Plus, her little arms reach well over 36" high.

The cost of the stand (which holds a 230+ lb Sony 34" HD tube TV) costs way more than replacing the DVD player with a low-end model.

If you have any good ideas for childproofing this setup, i'm all ears!

I blocked my A/V rack off with one of these.

Not too pretty, but it kept my daughter's hands out of there for a bit. Since we've moved to our new apartment, I haven't put it back because she stays away from everything for the most part. She liked to press the eject button on the Xbox because the light would flash and the dvd tray would open, then she would power it off and start over again.
Ha, I can't help you with childproofing, I've avoided that trap so far in life...:)

Something similar to what lowmazda suggested is probably your best bet. Unless you are capable of fabricating some glass doors for the stand or something (which, depending on the stand design, may not be too difficult).
Invisible-fence collar works well for my kids :D

Seriously, you could open the player up and pop out the buttons from the front panel. This way you can rely on the remote only to operate the machine. Keep the buttons so you can put it back once she has tired of messing with buttons. Another option is to fashion a clear acrylic door over your AV rack using hinges and small suitcase lock.

Recently I purchased a Marantz PMD910 professional DVD player for work. It has all the features that you are looking for.

Randy
a nice rack with a lockable door sounds like the best option to me.
