I am looking for an experienced Electrohome repair tech in the Milwaukee area. I a very good TV/Rear Projector repair tech but I am looking for some one who has specific experience with 8500 and 9500 to the component level trouble shooting. I have already swapped a few boards with no avail!

Here is the problem, in case anyone has experienced it before..

The picture blinks off for a few secs at a time.. the pic off time is about 2 secs to occasionally 10 secs.. The interval/frequency of occurance is from 5 mins to 24 hours.. Yes.. I have been advised it could be a monther board issue.. Yes, I have already replaced HDM and High volt powersupply - no difference.

Have you removed the CLM and cleaned the chips on the CLM and the smaller DPB on it.

When those chips carriers get oxidized even the slightest bit they can cause all sorts of weird things to happen.

I posted this on another thread it should help out.

Probably a good cleaning and reseating of all the boards is what's needed.

Here is a link to parts and boards of the Marquee. Reseating of the Focus board and HDM is just pulling it out and putting in in a few times to clean the contacts, you dont have to remove any connections to do this. Just pull up and put back in a few times. http://www.curtpalme.com/Electrohome...e_Layout1.shtm

Location of FCM and HDM.

on the hdm their is a daughter board that also need to be removed and reconected.

HDM Pic

Next on the CLM there are some chips that can be taken out from their

sockets, do one at a time. you will need a IC puller from radio shack to do this.

Location of CLM:

CLM out of Set showing chips.

chip puller pic:

Clean all chips with some contact cleaner or Denatured Alcohol.

I use DeOxit:

Do one chip at a time and remember how it came out so you put it back in the same way.

Id still clean all chips on both boards and the boards themselves, cleaning of the contacts is one of the most important maintenance procedures for CTR Projectors.

Also getting allt he dust out of the Power supplies and fans is very important to keeping the PJ running cool.

So far, it seems to work fine.. Thanks Athanasios.. and thanks to Curt Palme.. he too came up with the same suggestion as you athanasios..

crossing my fingers..

By the way, I think it was you who suggested that I go 120" wide with my ultra.. Good suggestion, because I am enjoying the picture a lot more than at 95" width - my seat being at 21'. Good suggestion.. yes, some lumen sacrifice but overall, a more preferable picture for me!

Well.. culprit seems to have been the CLM board.. The projector seems to be working fine! Lesson Learnt: When a marquee behaves erratically, look into the CLM Chip cleaning option.

Thanks for your help! We are so fortunate to have this forum and its helpful members!

Well.. this was a total pain though! I don't think I would go with a Blendizilla twin marquee though.. For me, its too much work to setup and maintain.. I can imagine that the picture of twin 9" CRTs would be phenominal.. but setup.. convergence.. drift... My own HDM is at Tims... it checked out ok at his.. now I gotta get it back and see if it works ok in mine.. CRT picture is great but a royal pain!

well wait till your new Digitla breaks out of waranty, just throw it away. You cant send boards, clean chips contacts, change parts like a good ole CRT. Keep the Marquee up or store it when you get a digital when the digital dies, pull out the marqee set it up again and remember why CRT will still be king !!!!
