I have a bit of burn in on my plasma and I was looking to get anything that will help to get rid of it. I have heard from other forums that there are some dvd programs that have burn in reduction tools that display like a snowy tv effect that is suppose to help but I don't know of any programs/dvds. Any help would be great.

What brand and model is your plasma? Does it have a USB port of SD slot etc to play jpeg images?

Are you sure it's burn-in and not just persistent Image Retention?

I have a Samsung PN50A450. I'm very sure it's slight burn in. I have used the built in screen wash for several hours and also used the white wash too and I can't get rid of it. I don't think my plasma has a USB or SD slot. I have heard of some people saying they have had great sucess using the "snowy" effect by going to a channel not tuned and leaving it on overnight to wash away the burn in but when I do that with my plasma I get a "weak or no signal" info panel that pops up and I will do more damage if I try it. I have looked to see if there was a way in the menu to turn off the info banner but I don't think I can

When I'm watching something on tv that has a light background like looking at the sky I can see a the dish network logo that's in the upper left hand corner that is there when I hit my channel menu screen. I can also see it when I use the built in white wash screensaver. I bought the HDTV brand new 4-5 months ago and fron day 1 I had the contrast and brightness on 50% and it's still like that today and no I didn't fall asleep with the channel menu up...lol...I guess it's just from looking at it but I didn't do anything that anybody else wouldn't do. I use the menu quite often and that's why I see it.

Yes, I think "persistent image retention" might be more apt. I've had a pn50a450 since December, and I have no burn-in. However, when I run the screen eraser, I do often see traces of recent images. And they can take more than several hours to go away. Nothing long-term, though.

Sounds like persistent IR not burn in. With burn in you see it all the time.

I do see it all the time. It has been there for over a month so it's not just a temp thing.. I have ran the built in white sweeper overnight for like 3 days without any improvement.

I thought Samsung doesn't cover stuff like burn in because it the "nature" of the technology. I just got the TV like 4-5 months ago and even got the extended 5yr plan with hhgregg but I don't think they will cover it neither

So where is Discopaul? We need him to chant his mantra that Samsungs don't get burn-in so this gentleman's Dish Network Logo can disappear

Yeah it's one of those things to where it doesn't matter what you call it,image retention, persistent image retention, burn in. All I know is that it's been there for over a month so in my book it isn't a temp problem and isn't user error. I know the do's and don't of plasma technology and I have done everything right and just using the TV without any abuse and this is what I get....lol...

Samsungs built in apps like white wash, white scrolling wash and pixel shift have done nothing.

Evangelo's break in DVD, every time you have a slight image retention, pop it in for 200 hours straight EVERY time for maximum removal of any unwanted picture burn in possibilities. j/k
...................or you could just try playing full screen movies and it will be gone seconds or minutes later.

mjrgamer, xboxmember has a new set therefore its more visable to get TIR.

xboxmember if it was real burn in you would see the actual color for example lets say dish logo is red (i dont have dish so i dont know) and you are looking at the blue sky then you should see red color on that blue sky. the reason why you see the lightly faded logo is because your set is still new and needs more break in. basicly the pixels go from premature to age and loose lumes and become less visable to TIR (temporarly image resistance).

if you could try this PAY EXTREAME caution and attention.

put a cycle of moving objects or pattern (like the break in disc) set your contrest high (like vivid mode)

make sure theirs NO static logos MAKE sure it doesnt freeze your dvd player or usb drive.

run it for great amount of hrs to see if this TIR goes away

By using a boosted contrast you achieve faster aging of the pixels.

MAKE SURE to not leave this high settings when you are watching tv.

hopefully i made sense.

Thanks for the info. How many hours should it be considered to have it "broke in"? I have 872hrs on the TV now. I thought I heard 200 was the normal break in period.

Samsung tvs are less resistant then panasonic or pioneers so i would say at a high contrast settings as i mentioned earlier a good 150hrs or so should help.

Note you dont have to break it in for 150 hrs non stop, just remember the more hrs you log into your tv the more resistant it becomes.

when you do the break in with the high contrast its accelerated process will help. but its only if you want relief of not seeing TIR. otherwise just watch tv like normal.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but does your set have a pixel orbiter setting and if so are you using it?
