Howdy all, I'm new to the forums here.
Anyways, I'm somewhat distressed that the local movie theater, which is about only 2 years old, seems to have really low brightness settings on most of their projectors. Each one of their screens uses DLP digital projectors, so focus/clarity isn't too much of an issue. It's just that the picture is MUCH darker than what I *think* it should be.
My family and I saw The Lego Movie a few days ago - not in 3D - and while the picture seemed to be "okay" at the time, I still had a nagging feeling that it was too dark. My feelings were confirmed afterwards when I came home and watched trailers and other behind-the-scenes stuff for the movie on my home computer and phone. With a standard brightness setting on my monitor/phone, everything looked a LOT brighter/clearer and more representative of what I think should have been projected on the movie screen.
Granted, the movie screen that we saw the movie on was the biggest one in the building - I'm not going to attempt to estimate the size, but I consider it to be "pretty darn big" and the theater itself does seat around 500-550 people. Perhaps the projector just can't provide enough light to handle such a big screen...?
Regardless, it was too dark and thus I'd like to at least try to convince the folks at the theater to increase the projection brightness. Does anybody have any tactful approaches? Should I ask for the general manager? Main projectionist...? I'm a confessed noob when it comes to knowing what a projector can/can't do, so I'd like to arm myself with as much information if possible.
Or maybe, of course, I'm just talking out of my butt and should go to the Cinemark 5 miles away instead. Heaven forbid I should ask for a good movie-going experience.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
