I tested a CM 4242 (placed INDOORS on the second floor) in Calabasas and was actually amazed to get KNBC-60, KCAL-43, KTTV-65.

Could not get KCET-59 to lock (low mid 50-60) and NO SIGNAL on KABC-53 or KNBC-36. Any thoughts why?

Any users of CM #4251 PARA-SCOPE for LA HD?

I tried a 4251 and it works great for long distance, but I could not get KNBC because of severe multipath where the 4248 locked in KNBC just fine. If you are trying to get channels 150 miles away, the 4251 is your best bet.

What about the CM Model 4228 A ?

8-BAY ANTENNA

Maximum gain bow and screen antenna.

· 8-Bay Bow

· Heavy-Duty Construction

· Aluminum Dipoles

· Painted Mast

· Painted Screen

It's weird that I can't get ANY signal reading on KNBC, KABC...

I get a 40-55 but no lock on KCET.

By the way, I also was wondering where you got the 4228 and 4248 from?

I would like to try them at my location and be able to return them if they didn't work out.

Thanks.

To anyone,

Does the periscope fit thru standard doors. Can a single person move it?Believe it ot not,i am thinking about using in apt balcony for two reasons:

a) to annoy my HOA

b) pick up low power signal 35 miles away

HAH HAH LOF -- the 4251 will surely do that!

The 4251 squeezes together. In that shape it is like 10' long, but now very narrow, and would be able to fit through the doors. It is also relatively light. One person can handle it. However, it is also a good sail, so hold on tight if a stiff breeze pops up.

CM #4251 Para Scope, CM #4228 Multi Bay or CM #4248 Yagi for 35 mile obstructed line of sight to Mt. Wilson?

I live in Calabasas CA 91302 which is 36 miles from Mt. Wilson with

no direct line of sight to Mt. Wilson.

I am by the 101 freeway and hidden by a small but pesky mountain.

I very much want to receive over-the-air HDTV in LA served by Mt. Wilson:

31 KTLADT WB

36 KNBCDT NBC

42 KWHYDT IND

43 KCALDT IND

53 KABCDT ABC

59 KCETDT PBS

60 KCBSDT CBS

65 KTTVDT FOX

66 KCOPDT UPN

With a CM 4242 I can get:

ALWAYS

60 KCBSDT CBS

43 KCALDT IND

SOMETIMES

65 KTTVDT FOX

SIGNAL BUT NO Lock

53 KABCDT ABC

59 KCETDT PBS

Which will be best?

Don't forget to paint it day-glow orange to maximize the effect of (a.) [keep paint off any insulators]

You have a right to install OTA and dish antennas on property under your control.

I might choose the 4248 over the 4251... but the two have comparable

performance. I actually just replaced the 4251 with 4248. The narrow beamwidth of the 4251 was causing the stations to fade in and out in the heavy winds coming up from the valley. The wider beamwidth of the 4248 fixed that problem.

In my location, I am actually picking up the Boston stations, almost 70 miles away, from behind a mountain that is directly inline. The signals will bend over the mountain somewhat... just like the experiments with lasers and knife edges you may have played with in high school or college.

So, with the right conditions and location being behind the mountain could still work.

Please tell me more about your signal challenges and why you might pick the 4248 over the 4251.

I'm considering the same choice myself in So. California.

I actually replaced a 4251 with a 4248.

I am 68 miles from the Boston antennas. I am also behind a hill, surrounded by hills. It is a multipath night mare.

I was running the 4251 for 6 months, and now that I replaced it with 4248, my signals are actually a little stronger. They fluctuate less. Also, with the high winds we get on the hill, the 4251 is like a big sail. It bops around in the wind, and with the narrow beam width, that causes additional signal fluctuations.

I am much more satisfied with the 4248 results over the 4251 at my installation.
