Hi Folks

As the date for the PJ shootout I have helped organize nears, I want to know if anyone has been able to pixel map from HTPC to the Epson TW100 yet? I know the few who have give it a go were having problems, but as any progress been made??

I did. I played around with a demo TW100 two weeks ago, and I was only 90% sure I could make it pixel perfect. Finally I bought it last week, and with a few days of testing, I can sure I make it one by one pixel mapping.

The one and only one way (so far as I know) to make it is to use powerstrip, 1280 X 960, DVI, then set to ZOOM aspect ratio. I am using WindowsXP Home, RADEON 7500, 3 meter DVI cable (will test 5 meter tonight). I will try to post some screen shots so that other experts can verify my pixel perfection.

P.S. other fail settings for your reference:

1. 1280 X 720, DVI --> "not support" displayed

2. 1280 X 720, VGA --> wrong resolution recognized, something like 18?? X 6??

3. 1280 X 960, VGA, ZOOM mode --> overscan

4. 1280 X 720 (with 1280 X 960 timming, add 120 blank lines at top and bottom, see
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...xel+perfection ), DVI, ZOOM mode --> signal error

5. 1280 X 720 (with 1280 X 960 timming), VGA, ZOOM mode --> overscan

Hi,

the DataSheet says, the Epson TW100 can do W-XGA.

What does this mean, if your Epson does NOT support 1280x720 native?

Where is the difference?

Which PC-resolutions can be used with the full panel, without getting black borders or cuttings top/bottom parts of the image?

Which of the will be resized, and which are shown pixel to pixel?

And: What are the options, when using a 4:3 source, for example 1024x768? Stretch to full panel/Resize to 1024x720 with black bars/... ?

Does the Epson support PAL-Progressive and 720p/1040i? The german pdf only lists the PAL features.

Hope, you can answer some of my questions.

I just use the PowerStrip predefined "1280x960p 60Hz" timing, which is as follow:

Horizonal:

Active pixels 1280

Refresh rate 60K

Front porch 80

Sync width 136

Back porch 216

Polarity Positive

Vertical:

Active pixels 960

Refresh rate 60

Front porch 1

Sync width 3

Back porch 30

Polarity Positive

Pixel clock 102.104

MorpheusSzeto,

Great stuff. Congratulations on your success and thanks for your work.

I just installed my Canare cable with VGA terminals on both ends. I am thinking of assembling my HTPC. From your earlier post, it would appear I won't be able to obtain a 16:9 pic (or indeed any pic at all) with such a setup. Is that right?

LoFi,

I still can't make pixel perfect via the VGA (input B) port. I'll try two things later:

1. overcome the overscan using "5. 1280 X 720 (with 1280 X 960 timming), VGA, ZOOM mode"

2. try the A-RGB of the DVI port and see if there is any diff % this and VGA input B.

I guess I make it pixel perfect through VGA (input B)!!!

The magic numbers are as follow:

Horizontal

Active 1280

Front porch 103

Sync width 128

Back porch 289

Total 1800

Scan rate 56.746 kHz

Vertical

Active 720

Front porch 121

Sync width 3

Back porch 150

Total 994

Refresh rate 57.089

This is 1280 X 720, not 1280 X 960.

I also tried the A-RGB of DVI, the result is same. Anyone read this please try, and let me know if you think this is not correct.

MorpheusSzeto,

What is the Pixel Clock value for your 1280x720 settings? You have it listed for the ealier 1280x960 settings, but I did not see it for the new 1:1 pixel settings?

LoFi,

When I was with Li On the night before, I also made his HTPC pixel perfect with my TW-100. He is using the same RADEON LE as mine, which I used to discover the magic numbers. But when I use another RADEON 7500 to set the pixel perfect, something weird. There seems a little bit overscan of half pixel at left edge; and at that moment vertical Refresh rate of 57.091 was used (step increment suggested by powerstrip) instead of 57.089. Li On said that if we type in 57.089 exactly, the pixel perfect result should be the same. I didn't try later on. If you are making your HTPC, one of the simple choices of display card would be RADEON LE, instead of 7500 or others. Anyway, I'll test the 7500 later and keep you updated.

Hi Morpheus,

A minor issue, my Radeon is NOT a LE. It's a original Radeon 32M DDR. WinXP sees it as a 7200. I believe there is at least a "marketing" difference! :)

And that is a very weird pixel perfect "like" picture...

dandavw,

I just set the pixel perfect using a 8500, the magic numbers are all same, i,e, Vertical Refresh rate 57.089, and the Pixel clock you needed is 102.142 MHz.

Regards,

Morpheus

P.S. LoFi, I think 7500 would be the same.

Li On, Morpheus,

Thanks for all your testing, keep up the good work and results of your tweaking. Many of us are novices in this area and appreciate the hard work that "skilled" members such as yourselves put into discovering how to get the best out various projectors. We are all in your debt for your expert guidance!

We also look forward to the reviews of novice members too, everyones opinions count, even if they may not be based on a wide experience of the subject. It's sometimes more valuable to get the gut feeling response to someone whos knowledge is perhaps more limited, as they are going with their initial impressions of what they see and not simply bogged down with the ultra critical eye that sometimes detracts from the overall enjoyment of watching a big screen.

hhelmut - looking forward to reading your thoughts on the TW100, please post soon. Thanks.
