I just moved my Panasonic DMR-ES10 from one location to another, but now it will not power up at the new location (there definitely is power at outlet) - no display whatsoever. Tried unplugging and waiting a minute and tried holding the 1/0 power button for 10+ seconds, per the manual. Then also tried holding up/down channel arrows. Nothing. Opened box and confirmed the fuse is still intact.

How do I get power back?

I have two machines that are also dead, a DMR-ES46V and DMR-ES15, both 2006 models.

The DMR-ES15 was working well for a month or two after having a power supply electrolytic capacitor replaced. Then this ES15 was set aside for around five months as a standby machine. When it was set back up it was found to be "dead."

The DMR-ES46V had other problems before it was removed from service. When it was set up after being stored it was found to be "dead."

The fuses in both machines were found to be good but were nevertheless swapped with other known good fuses.

The machines were still "dead." I'm at a loss to explain why, sorry. (Subsequently I swapped good parts from these machines into other machines.)

Your DMR-ES10 is a 2005 model. I have two heavily used 2005 DMR-ES30V combo recorders that were fully functional at last use. My daughter also has two heavily used DMR-ES30V combo recorders in current use.

Interesting. Somehow, I won't be surprised if others have experienced this issue - my hope is there's some easy reset, but it doesn't sound like you found one.

After calling Panasonic they offered replacements at $140 + shipping & handling for models ES15S, EZ17S or EZ28K. I was moving the unit as my Sony DVD player died and I simply need a basic replacement player used with a JVC 32" TV. Trying to avoid spending a lot of money.

Of these models I would choose the EZ28. I have one of these, a good machine. I have four EZ17 models, somewhat problematic.

Thanks for recommendation. I'm not sure I'll take the Panasonic offer - all I really need is playback, so as soon as I can figure out which low-cost (

No real list that I know of, but if you go to the DVD player forum and search for "cheap", you'll probably have several dozen hits.

For under $100, just about any big brand (Panny, Pioneer, Sony, Philips) does the job.

I have two different Sony DVD Players (DVP-NS57P and DVP-SR200P) that have the basics, each was priced below $40 at Walmart. The NS57 is wider and has a more comprehensive set of features controlled by the remote. The SR200 fits in a smaller space with a simpler remote. They both perform well.

Thanks. I also just spent an hour or so looking over previous posts to come up with this list of alternative, inexpensive players that folks recommended. May be a good starting point for anyone looking:

Denon 1940ci

Toshiba XD-E500

Philips DVP 3982/37

Sony DVP-NS710H (might have seen a newer model of this listed, too)

Pioneer DV-420V

I'm leaning towards the Denon. Around $80 at Amazon.

I am having the power issue with my ES10 as well... after searching a little I have found that it is a bad capacitor.

I have a coupe links that show a potential fix but can't post them at the moment.

Here's a thread that includes capacitor replacement discussions, step-by-step instructions, photos or links to other discussions and photos:

DMR-ES30V - no power

Hello
I've had this unit for 10 years. Within a month it failed, I brought it in to the local Panasonic repair shop and once fixed - i've had good use. Like some others when I moved this unit 20 feet - well - there is no power at all. I checked for burned out or discolored parts - but found none. The only odd thing I noticed - is the fuse supposed to have a central ball along the internal wire ? I'd hate to dump the machine, it has functioned well for all this time. Recently I've been transferring family video memories to DVD.

I've found something about this problem

I found a video about Panasonic DMR units, it seems a fairly straightforward repair. The video is located here: http://www.montfordhouse.com/dvd-recorder-fix/ (it took me two tries to get the video to load and play - so be patient) The person who shows you how to do the repair is clear about what is necessary for the work and what should be done. The visuals are very well done. Hope this is a help.

Tom
