I'm thinking about buying a Model B screen for my LT150 and am concered about the lack of tensioning. I've heard from two separate retailers that the Model B Deluxe isn't worth the extra money. The tension bar simply doesn't work well.


So, I'm a little concered about what to expect from a non-tensioned Model B. So far, I've heard nothing but good things. Waves can be seen when the screen is blank, but everything looks great when watching movies/TV in relative darkness.


Has anyone had any bad experiences with the Model B? Thanks!

I got a Model B hi-power last week, and it did indeed have waves at the sides. The projector's image was visibly distorted as a result of these waves. I was able to eliminate most of them by using thumbtacks in the black borders to tension the screen a bit.


The casing to the hi-power arrived with a dent, and I sent it back. The replacement will be a fast-fold Cinema Vision screen. The fabric snaps onto an aluminum screen and is supposed to be perfectly flat.


If you are on a budget and plan to use a masking system (or are not bothered by aesthetics), the thumb tack approach is OK. If $$$ is not a big concern, I'd go with a frame-mounted screen.

I have a model B pulldown and yes there are vertical waves. They are most noticeable on bright scenes when horizontal panning occurs. I'm still trying to come up with some sort of homemade solution to manual tension the screen myself. Any tips appreciated.

How about using elastic cargo ties with hooks on each end to give tension to the screen. You can buy a bag of differing lengths at Big Lots or similar discount stores for <$5. Hook one end to the middle and the other to a nail or screw in wall/floor or into baseboard crack. You could experiment with 2 ties one on each end too giving differing tension for each end to overcome any waves or keystoning. You can use dumbells (>20# should stayput) to pull the screen out a little to correct keystoning. Just a thought. Good luck.

I'll echo derek's comments - my model B (80x45 untensioned) has waves, and they are apparent (and very annoying to me, but not noticeable to others...) in certain types of images - pans, and also outdoor sky scenes.


I'll be upgrading at some point to a tensioned motorized retractable screen. Depending on your setup, you may want to opt for a fixed screen. I would, but I think my wife would object to a large piece of fabric covering the fireplace... http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif
