Sorry, I have no specific information, but a useful rule of thumb is that new HT products are typically announced at CEDIA in the Fall and CES in January. Since no new Lexicon products were announced at CEDIA, CES would be the next window to learn about them--if there are any coming. And of course, actual roll-outs will always trail announcements by several months.

Depending on how pressing your need is, there isn't anything else coming in the immediate future, but if you can wait till CES you'll have a more complete picture.

Also remember that Lexicon has a unique trade-in program that takes a lot of the bite out of upgrades down the road.

Philip,

I've heard a lot of good things about the trade in program. The MC-1 seems to have all the features that I'm looking for. There will always be upgrades, but I don't see any reason for Lexicon to release a new model. The audio format wars are nonsense and I hope that 7 speakers will be the maximum with any future format.

Can you shed some light on the trade in program that Lexicon has offered in the past?

i.e., How much does one get for a fully loaded DC-1 towards the purchase of the MC-1?

Also, let's say, I decided to pass on an upgrade and waited for the next model; has lexicon allowed owners of previous models to upgrade to the newest one? i.e., DC-1 to MC-2? If the next model was indeed an MC-2.

Thanks,

MM

Typically, you get the best deal if you upgrade directly from the immediately preceding model to the next model up when it's first introduced--although there is quite a wide trade-in window for this.

With the introduction of the MC-1, DC-1 owners got a credit of 70% of the full retail value of their DC-1s (a lot more than you'd typically get selling it used), and they had about 9 months to do the upgrade.

As time goes on, the trade-in value of a discontinued unit will obviously go down, but there has always been a trade-in for older units, on a sliding scale. So if you skip an upgrade, you'll still get something, but not as much as you would have gotten if you'd taken the initial trade-in offer.

One thing to be aware of, though, is that Lexicon only allows a unit to be traded in once, and tracks serial numbers. The way the program works, the dealer reports the serial number to Lexicon and Lexicon issues a dealer credit; the dealer is then free to sell the trade-in for whatever he can get. A lot of the used DC-1s that flooded the market following the MC-1 rollout were trade-ins, and most likely will not be eligible for a direct trade-in program.

Notwithstanding, Lexicon periodically runs other trade-in offers that are more flexible...there's one where you can trade in any surround processor or receiver for a credit of up to $1500--though the credit amount isn't as high, any unit qualifies--even DC-1s that have previously been traded in.

Hope this helps.
