Any news on 2007 Sony SXRDs?

When would we hear about any new SXRDs from Sony for 2007?

Don't expect to hear about them until April at the earliest. Sony was a few months late in shipping the XBR2 SXRDs so they aren't going to announce anything until they are closer to the ship date.
Sony should have a press release in mid to late Feb/March for their entry level to mid line TVs for July/Aug deliveries. In June they should have another press release for their high end XBR and Home audio and video gear that will reach stores in Sept/Oct. This is how they have been doing it since I have been following their TVs. I'm in the market for a 70-80" TV. The current 70XBR2 was disappointing. There was really no TV out their that made me want to buy it. I'm hoping for either a 65 or greater thin DLP or LCOS with laser light and good contrast level.

Already did. Talked to the Sony rep at CES. He has already seen the 2007 SXRDs. They have completely redesigned cabinets, HDMI 1.3 and a new optical engine which he says produces a dramatically improved picture. You could tell he was just bursting to tell more but obviously couldn't. I'm not buying anything until I see this new line. They will be out in August.

Thats good news. They need a new cabinet design. Hopefully they will have the new cabinets with the speakers hidden on the bottom or tucked in on the sides like the XBR3 LCDs in piano black. I would also like to see two ATSC tuners and 2 HD twin view. Hopefully they will have a new SXRD chip with 20,000 to 1 contrast as well.
joanmaeder, thank you for the information it is very helpful! I am very partial to green globs on my displays and have been searching for such for quite some time. I will certainly buy Sony on your recommendation. I will now only buy Sony products and will encourage all my friends and relatives to do so as well. I'm not sure if this was your intention, but your post will significantly help the Sony corporation. Sincerest thanks!!!

What didn't you like about the 70" Sony? Must have been poorly calibrated or something. I have been looking at the RPTV's in the 70" range and the Sony blows them ALL away. Well, the Toshiba is close in PQ, but seems to lack reliability. The Sony's seem pretty much bullet proof. The Samsung was pretty good even w/ SD stuff, but the Mitsu was unwatchable with anything less than HD.

The Sony was great even w/ SD signals. Really surprised me, coming from a 53" Pioneer Elite Pro 510 which has always been the benchmark RPTV.

Waiting for the best deal on a 70" Sony and then jumping in!

Did he at least tell you what size TVs the new SXRDs would be?

I am interested in the off chance there would be a 46" 1080p SXRD.
Hmph.

I would've sworn that CNET's 8.7 score for the Sammy out-trumped their 8.6 score for the Mits, but what do I know?

I was hoping for a new cabinet design. I like the current design but it is getting old to me being 3 years old.

The picture was very good. My wife and I looked at the 70 and we were willing to buy it but I really wanted it in black with a new design. I really like the LCD XBR3 design. I just wished it was in the RP TV. I am waiting till June to see the press release on the 07 XBRs this year before I buy the 70XBR2. By then I can pick one up for around 4500. Which is 500 less than we can get one now. Time will tell. Its just 5 1/2 months away. I still have to build a custom cabinet for it so it gives me more time to focus in that.

Yea, I agree...I would like to see a nice all Piano black cabinet too, but the glossy grey/black trim around the screen is pretty nice and since I will remove the speakers anyway, I think it will look pretty good on my black Salamander quad 20 with the Martin Logan Prodigy with Piano black rails next to it!

As for price, I have seen them SHIPPED (and from reportedly pretty good companies) for $4200 already! I personally am not ready to have a GIANT TV like this shipped to me, but I have talked to someone who did and was VERY HAPPY with *******. I think he got it with a Sony stand and waranty for $5200...not bad.

BTW, what is wrong with the Troll lady? Joan something??? Does she SELL Mitsu sets or is she just trying to make herself feel better for getting ripped off buying one by trying to bring others down? Did she even LOOK at a Mitsu before buying it? The 65" is very nice, but the 73" are not very good on anything BUT HD programming. They are very nice there, but no better than the Toshi or the Sony...

I guess you have not seen the 70" JVC or read any of the trillions of post on this forum about the JVC 70 incher.
