Although generally released in March/April, with the release of the new HDCP 2.2 chip, new releases may be delayed a month or two, although depends on what Onkyo has in mind as the new owner.
That's right. I totally missed Onkyo deal. They might just discontinue lower end models and keep Pioneer as Elite high-end models. Thats how usually done at electronics and computer companies. Yeah maybe last year models were the last onesAlthough generally released in March/April, with the release of the new HDCP 2.2 chip, new releases may be delayed a month or two, only depends on what Onkyo has in mind as the new owner.
Can Atmos work with just the front heights?^^
Yes, the Front Height can be used with both Atmos and Auro 3D.
Thanks!^^

Yes, it can on all but Onkyo Atmos models (although you could simply use the Top Front label for the Front Height speakers on Onkyo models). You can use the same 5.1.2 (Front Height) or 7.1.2 (Front Height) configuration with Atmos, Auro 3D, and DTS Neo:X.Can Atmos work with just the front heights?
I thought the minimum is top heights?
Pioneer has just announced two new elite models with Dolby Atmos and HDCP 2.2 compliance. The VSX90 and the VSX45. See their website. These are also in their traditional line.I have 1121K. I am pretty happy with it, except now I bought an UHD TV w/ HDMI 2.0 inputs.
I would like to upgrade my 1121K but looking for newer models w/ HDMI 2.0 and hopefully HDCP2.2. I know Denon and Onkyo both have pretty good models but I got so familiar with MCACC now. Elite series is an overkill for movie only media room. For music, I already use separates for my upstairs.
Does anyone know when newer model expected to come? I see every Spring Pioneer is releasing newer models. I googled but cannot find any information.
Thanks
Eric
Why do you think the new line is pathetic?Elite Models:

I have to say, pretty pathetic all in all. They are all HDCP 2.2 and full HDMI 2.0 though.
Seems like the only 'pathetic' thing is how long they took to include wi-fi instead of gouging $100 for the add-on wi-fi adapter. Now that its included on all 2015 models I will be updating the theater and TV room systems!Elite Models:

They top out at a scant 7.2. I hope this is just the beginning and that they do not stop there. 7.2 with Atmos gives you basically nothing. A 5 surround setup with only 2 on the ceiling. Might as well not bother. Why do you think the new line is pathetic?
To think for a moment that they would 'top out' at 7.2 is kinda ridiculous. If this is like last year(s), the low end ELITE models get introduced in March, with the high end Elite models (9.2, 11.2) following in June. With the Elite 90 at 700.00 and only 7 channels of amplifacation, and no flip down front panel. I doubt seriously, its the only Elite Atmos capable avr!
Pioneer also had intermediate models with the model number +5.. 824/829, 1024/1029, etc.The weird thing is the standard VSX line naming, jumping from xx24 to xx30
Before it was a year thing, 2011 = 521, 821, 1021, 1121 2012 = 522, 822, 1022, 1122 2013 = 523, 823, 1023, 1123 2014 = 524, 824, 1024, 1124
Now, 2015 = 530, 830, 1030, 1130??!!
Thanks for the 2010 number +5 info, didn't know that. And then there was 2012 and 2013 when the 'regular consumer' VSX line hosted some higher end type SC models....As others have pointed out, the VSX line never had more than 7 channels of amplification. Pioneer only have more with their class D amplifiers that get announced a month or two later.
Pioneer also had intermediate models with the model number +5.. 824/829, 1024/1029, etc.
The problem with that is that back in 2010 they had 920/925, 1020/1025 etc. so in 2015 they would start overlapping.
