Any news on the Samsung DVD-HD1080 DVD Player

Slated to start showing up in May this year. I'd appreciate the 1080 output but am really looking for a DVD player with SACD/DVD-A. I have a DVD HD850 now, it suits me somewhat pleasingly for video but I am also looking for something that plays the hi res audio formats. Barring any bad news/reviews I'm probably going to get this one as soon as I can find it. Supposedly the new video processor on the high end Samsung models is quite superior to the one I have now. Anything you can share good or bad is appreciated. thanks.

The 1080 has a Faroudja chip, while your 850 uses a Zoran chip. Yes, the Faroudja chip is generally considered better than the Zoran chip, but may show macroblocking errors with some displays (in which case it will look worse), and the differences are probably pretty subtle anyway (assuming no MB). Sounds like you should have gone with the 950 instead of the 850 if you're into high res audio.

Yup, I was very shortsighted in that respect. In fact, I had never at that point been introduced to hires audio, and now am hooked. I have a little brother that not only used to accept my hand me down clothes, but now buys my hand me down AV components, so it will only hurt a little.

I'm also considering the Denon. DVD-1920 which is, to me at least, a superior device, but twice the price. Any comments on that one?
The Denon uses the same chip as the Samsung 1080. Since the Sammy is not out yet, it's not possible to compare them.
Only news I have is: I'm still waiting for this one. I've been waiting for several months in fact, since the original press release.
This player sounds good, but I'm not sure how they're going to accomplish SACD/DVD-A through 1.2 spec. HDMI (preliminary reports claim this). Either they know something everyone else doesn't, or its inaccurate.

The Denon DVD-1920 looks like a nice player, but also no way to pass multi-channel music through the HDMI...and twice the price.

Makes one wonder if an all digital transfer of multi-channel music will blur the lines between $1000+ players and $200 players with respect to sound quality.

You can do 5.1 multichannel audio for DVD-Audio and DSD (up to the receiving device to determine what the output will be) for SACD through HDMI 1.2. If we were talking about HDMI 1.1, you wouldn't get any SACD support.
This player is to support SACD 2.0. Anyone know about the specs of SACD 2.0, please chime in because I haven't been keeping up with it.

As for SACD through HDMI, I will still be stuck using the analog outputs until at least 2007 maybe longer.
Samsung Rep just told me the DVD-HD1080 USA release has been cancelled and there is no plan for a future release of this product in the USA.
