I'm in the rigging stage of my HT. I'm gonna have a 30' run for my DVI cable. Any experience with DTronics DVI Link or others. Also any reccomendation for for a value priced 30' DVI cable?

For the DVI cable:

www.lindy.com

only a few DVI cables are good enough to be used at that length.

www.ramelectronics.com also has a good one, but it was more $ the last time I compared them.

For info on the Dtronics switch you can PM AVS member, Kei Clark, from www.digitalconnection.com The last time I checked she had the most info and best price on this switch. There have been issues with most/all the DVI switches. Kei and her company have been diligent in following up and resolving those with the Dtronics switch.

What are the problems with the switchers?

I take it that with a digital signal there can be no degrading of the signal. I assume the only possible degradation effects are sparklies.

Am I right?

1. RTcom USA Inc. www.rtcomusa.com

2. Dtroivision, Inc. www.dtronicsinc.com

Both companies still have inventories of Dtroncis, Inc. products.

Rick
The RTcom site is not up yet, and dtronicsinc has not changed. Do you have any more information on how the two new entities will differ from the original company, and how products might differ?

I saw the Zektor switch at CEDIA, it has some great features for HT. First it can switch digital audio along with the the DVI. Has inputs for coax and toslink and outputs both coax and toslink. Second it can be programmed to switch with any IR code. This would allow you setup it up to use the same IR code as your receiver/pre-pro uses to switch inputs.

Check thread below for more info on the Zektor

John,

There's no question the Zektor is the "cadillac" option -- and the digital audio switching/cross conversion means a single digital audio cable / input to the receiver/processor can do the job.

If you have a rack unit from Middle Atlantic (or Raxxess) or whomever the Zektor is rack mountable where the Dtronics (or the Gefen) are not. I'm saving up my $$ for the Zektor. I didn't think I'd ever need 5 DVI inputs, but at this point, I have three sources that use DVI (2x DVD players and my sat receiver) with a 4th coming in (I ordered a D-VHS deck with HDMI). When I put my laptop into the mix that makes a 5th.

If you go the route of the Gefen 4x1 make sure you get the later firmware which is much better than the original version. Once I swapped out to the new version, I've been very happy with its performance, but I still don't like the fact that it has two inputs on one side, and two inputs + the output on the other side.

Best Regards,

When I looked at the specs for the Zektor, it seemed that it would not support 1080p, do the others?

I think most of the problems have resulted from IR issues such as the outputs switching when attempting to perform IR commands with other components.

Tubby,

1080i is all that I've seen listed. There isn't exactly a ton of people that need 1080p support at this time.

Just trying to line things up for later. Also, has anyone had problems using a DVI switch connected to a HDMI source or display via a DVI to HDMI adapter/cable?

Right. I do understand that, I'm just being realistic :)

The two DVD players that are hooked in now are HDMI. I use HDMI / DVI cables with no issues whatsoever.

I have yet to find a DVI switcher that can handle 1080p. Several we have tried cannot. The Gefen website does indeed say that switch can handle 1080p; I hope to be able to test one of these soon.

According to Digital Connection, that switch is not rated for 1080p. The web site says up to UXGA (1600x1200). I believe they tested it at 1080p and it would not work, but I will check again.

Easy switching between four digital video signals (e.g., DVD, Satellite receiver, Computer, TiVo) using remote control or the switch button on the switch.

Remote control suports discreet codes.

Intuitive LED display of video source channels.

Supports high resolution (1600 X 1200 at up to 85Hz) (1920 X 1080 at up to 70Hz) - The only switch in the market to support this resolution.

Low cost solution for home theater integration.

Plug-and-play. No software installation. Installs in minutes.

The Pacific Cable unit is made by Dtronics.

There has been a split in the company and Dtronics is now indeed Dtrovision.

Due to design limitations, the 4x1 cannot pass 1080p reliably.

I am currently planning on hooking up a new HT and have a HD DBS box, DVD, and PC all going through a Gefen 4X1 DVI switcher to a final run of 30FT of DVI-D cable to an IF7205. Will the PC work properly or is it DVI-I connection. The video card is a Radeon 9800.

I love the Zektor switches (have 2), have 2 Gefen supposedly rated 1080p, but my only working 1080p is the Dtronics 2x1 DVI (with both Kei's great service & Wm Phelps helpful pointing).

I use a Zektor DVI 5x for all but 1080p and use the Dtronics 2x1 to switch betwen scaler and direct PC connection. It works, somewhat surprisingly after much trial and error.
