I was looking at this TV at Best Buy. I want to get my son a TV for Christmas that can serve as his entertainment platform. He lives in a small one room apartment and goes to DePaul in Chicago. It has 7w speakers w/ mega bass. I realize that a Sony would have a better PQ. But I am not into spending a lot of cash. I figured this with a decent DVD player would be a nice gift.

My wife wants to get him a combo player/TV. I don't like what they offer in that respect. If one thing breaks then the whole thing is toast.

This Samsung at least has component vid inputs as well as S-Vid( good for his laptop)

Anyone own one of these? Any complaints?

Thanks....

NOBODY owns this TV? NOBODY has any info/opinions on this TV?

It "seems" to be a decent TV and entertainment system for a college kid with little space and cash to work with. Just hoping to get your views.

Thanks.....

I have a larger samsung widescreen tube tv. at 26", it's a great size for a bedroom or small apt. Being able to receive HD with an OTA antenna is awesome. DVD's look great in 1080i or 720p. For the money, it's a keeper.

For a college student, I think the 20" will be fine. You don't want to spend alot of money on an analog tv right now since HD is the future and this set will not be able to receive HD. If the cost of the tv is in your budget, it will do until your son graduates and when he lands that great job, he can buy his own tv and maybe one for yourself !

Cheers,

Yes I know it is a $200.00 set. Well it is this week at BestBuy anyways. I was thinking of getting this for my son in college. Since it has higher amped speakers I thought it would work for his entertainment as well. I was looking to see if anyone had any certain problems with this TV for any reason.

bconover, I always say "You get what you pay for..." I got a grin when you posted that. ;) My wife gripes at me when I pay more for something or another. Then I repeat that line.

Then she bows her head and worships the ground I walk on....Oh wait...I was dreaming....

I bought this tv at BB 2 months ago. After 3 weeks, the right speaker developed a short. I returned for the same model. The picture on the second tv was rotated about 5-10 degrees ccw. The ticker on the left side of CNN was cut off. I exchanged the television again. The third one suffered from the same defect as the second. The picture was rotated considerably. Even looking at the display model, a minor rotation could be observed. I have had good luck with other samsung products, but after three of these TVs, i decided to get a Sony. The Sony has a menu option to rotate the screen. I suggest that no one buy this TV. I do not want you to have to go through the headache of returning it.
