I'm currently planning out our Home Theater System and I'm looking to a HTIB system. Has anyone heard anything about this Sony system. I might be interested in picking this baby up since the rear speakers are wireless and we are looking for something a speaker system that has minimal wires and do not have mount any speakers on the walls(wife doesn't like). I'm willing to make the investment in the Sony DAV-FR10W if this is a good system. I've only found a couple of user reviews over at CNET and futureshop.ca and they seemed to liked the system.

If anyone has heard something or has the system, can you please comment on it. I saw that J&R has the system at a good price.

Hi DaveInBerlin,

Thanks for the reply. The review from zdnet is the same one from CNET. I did the same google search and only found a couple reviews over at futureshop.ca. Does anyone have any info on this model?

I have no clue. But I would be leery of the wire-less speakers. Are they CLEAR and CRISP? Or do they HISS and CRACKLE? My wire-less headphones HISS and CRACKLE. And that is at 8 feet. They are suppose to go as far as 150 feet.

I don't have first hand experience with these speakers, however, they are infared speakers as opposed to RF. In theory I don't think there should be any sonic degradation, hissing etc. What I want to know is do they have to have an unobstucted view with the transmitter? Experience with other infared devices would indicate that.

Just bought one of these last week. They retail at the local Sony Store in Los Angeles for $1000. I found mine for just under $740 at an online store using the cnet price comparison.

I'm not an audiophile and haven't provided written reviews before so I'm not sure what info would be most helpful, but feel free to send some questions my way and I'll let you know what i can.

At this point a big plus for me has been the size of the combo amp/dvd/tuner. The unit is about as big as a standard DVD unit. My previous amp / dvd config took up about 10" of entertainment unit height.

The set up was very quick - took me about 20 minutes to get it out of the box and working. This is a very slick looking system. The wireless rear speakers work and sound great. The biggest plus for me has been the subwoofer. I hadn't had one prior to this purchase so I'm revisiting all my action DVDs for the booming sound. I'm still trying to get used to the various sound modes and haven't settled on a favorite yet.

As someone who was looking for a wireless surround home theater system this was a great purchase.

DerekBlain,

Do you see any conflicts with 2.4Ghz phones or router or any other wireless devices? I am interested in buying this unit but would wnat to make sure there would absolutely no conflicts with other wireless devices. It would not make sense for me to spend 1k if my speakers make weired noise when a call comes in (or something like that).

Appreciate your response.

SRAVAN - I haven't noticed any interference on the system. Keep in mind that it's an infrared signal that's carrying the sound from the amp to the speaker. As such there is no interference from common household items like phones, microwaves, whatever.

As long as you have a direct line of sight between the infrared 'sender' and one rear speaker you're set. If you don't have a direct line of sight, Sony includes two pieces of equipment ('bout the size of a cigarette pack) that you can place in a higher position to send and receive the signals.

Regarding the price, I thought $1K was pretty steep too. Keep in mind I was able to find mine for less than $750 using a price search on CNET.

Feel free to post add'l questions.
