Was checkinhg the fact sheet from

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm

"Games: Xbox 360 redefines what games look like, sound like, feel like, and play like to engage you like never before. With Xbox 360, epic worlds are alive with detail, from thunderous skies rumbling over a mountain range to tiny blades of grass rustling together in the breeze. Vibrant characters display depth of emotion to evoke more dramatic responses, immersing you in the experience like never before. You’ll see all Xbox 360 titles at 720p and 1080i resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smooth, movie-like graphics and multi-channel surround sound. "

So do all games support both 720p and either be upscaled to 1080i?

Supposedly every game supports 720p AND 1080i. So there shouldnt be any upscaling/downscaling. On the other hand, they were looking at using upscaling for the 360's DVD playback capabilities, which would be very nice.

i guess you are right since 1080i is only 540p doubled which 720p is greater that that of course

I believe the games must support at least 720p. The xbox360 will scale the image to whatever resolution you select - 480, 720, or 1080 - just like your sat or cable box does.

Mits owners rejoice!

DavidML3 ,

1080i is NOT 540p doubled.

Please keep in mind that 1080i has more horizontal resolution than 720p so the result is actually more data in a 1080i signal than a 720p signal.

As to which one actually creates a better picture... I'll leave that debate to the experts :)

By the time the XBox 360 comes out I will ahve my Pio Plasma so Ill be playing at 720p because it is closer to the native resolution of the plasma...

I've never been completely clear on that point either. So 1080i has 1080 interlaced lines by 1920 progresive lines?

mking2673,

I believe what you wrote is correct. The horizontal resolution is "progressive" in that they are all drawn. The vertical lines are what are interlaced so every other one draws...

I also agree with Michael St. Clair that what we will get are native 720p games with XBox360 scaling to 1080i. Regardless of what happens, both should look excellent!

I have a very hard time seeing the difference between 1080i and 720p so I doubt normal consumers will be able to.
