I had heard a bit about a new card with an hd tuner and an ability to get unencrypted hd cable broadcasts to eliminate renting a box last year but nothing on a release date.With the new pioneers all over the forum and no way of changing cards the topic seems to have disappeared.

I'd say use an external HD tuner because this week LG is releasing their HD PVR/tuner unit. I'd rather have a way to record HD shows like the PVR box than just a tuner.
