I would like to know if the Zeniths have vertical compression for dvd input (480i or 480p) and also what does Aspect Ratio Correction feature do.

Would also like to hear comments from Zenith owners on their experience regarding the quality and reliability of their Direct Views. I am particularly interested in the V36, W37 and V37 models announced at CES earlier in the year that have the Faroujda DCDi, 2 HD components(1080i, 720p, 480p,480i compatable), DVI, and built in ATSC tuner. The 27" 4:3 appears to be arriving imminently at your local Circuit City.

I just got the C27V22, the model prior to the V36 which is out right now at circuit city for 649.

This has 16x9 vertical compression for dvd input. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by aspect ratio correction though.

Qualitywise I can't really comment since I just got this TV last weekend. All I know is it has got to be better than my last 27' Panasonic which had a fried circuit controlling the vertical spread after 2 years of moderate use. ($170 to fix)

Nevertheless, I did spring $89 for a three Circuit City warranty.

humahuma,

Interesting. I looked at the C32V23 and was very impressed with the 1080i picture which was at least as good as the hs510 Sony if not better.

The weird thing is the 32" set does not have PIP and could not select the Aspect Ratio feature. Strange that the 27" has PIP and the 32" Integrated does not. How do you the vertical compression for dvd - does it have to be a an interlaced input on the "DVD" input? How about the HD 1080i component input, can you unsqueeze the set to have fullscreen 1080i (ie people are stretched vertically)?

yeah its sucks that the 32 doesn't have PIP, but I don't really use mine. So it doesn't mean too much for me.

I feed the video via component cable to the component progressive tv input. Then I go into the menu option, goto video, goto advanced, then you can select whether you want to view it in 1) normal 4:3, 2)widescreen 16:9, or 3) zoom. I wish there was a quick button that I could press to change this.

Did you try that with a 1080i input signal?

Looks like the specs for the new Zenith HDTV Integrated models 32V37 and 34W37 are now listed on their website. Unfortunately no mention of DCDi or a Zoom feature on these :(

The Zenith 27v36 at CC is very attractive at $600 it looks like they are one of the first ones to have the unit, with a list of $649 it may be at street under 500. With DVI and Faroudja DCDi seems very hard to beat. I can't find a 32" equal, Info is very hard to come by on any of these new units.

I think I read the 27 has PIP but you need a VCR, probably for the tuner.

That's odd....The site mentions DCDiâ„¢ for the C27V36. I couldn't find it either for the 32V37 or 34W37. Are these supposed to have it? You'd sure think so.

Still musing about the C27V36 (latest and greatest technology) or the Sony Wega KV27FV310 (safe bet). I think I've eliminated the Samsung TXN2775HF from my list (too many issues). Have the crum Pannie TV in the van to return today, so I'll have to decide shortly.....
