It wont be a deal breaker for me if it does not work (well) as I have a phono preamp already, just trying to simplify things a little. FWIW I currently have a MM cartridge.

If I do have to continue using a preamp is it safe to plug one preamp ( my current unit) into another supposed (806) preamp?

as long as you plug your existing phono preamp into any analog input OTHER than the 806's phono input, it will work just fine. That's what it's designed to do. (If I'm understanding your question...)

Well,

A. I'm wondering how the phono input on the 806 is

B. If it's bunk I can plug my current preamp into the 806's phono input. Sounds like I should just use the tape input or something else if that's the case.
