I'm considering purchasing some DIYSG speakers. Just wondering if anyone around me owns them, and would be willing for me to take a listen. I'd be willing to drive a few hours to hear them.

Thanks!

I don’t live anywhere close to you but it would help if you had a speaker you are interested in and what you will be using them for. I have heard many of them and have 3 different ones in my house, the speedsters (for computer speakers), Volt8s for atmos and HTM8s as surrounds and 2 channel listening.

The HT8s are an awesome speaker for my application for surrounds, very detailed crisp, clean sound and can handle a ton of power, as for 2 channel for tv watching they pick up things you don’t normally hear through tv speakers, listening to music they fill my whole main floor with awesomeness. You can’t go wrong with any DIYSG speaker, from 1099, titans, HT/HTM series, it just picking one that suits your situation.

That’s just my .02

Thanks, I appreciate it.

I am looking to replace my LCR's which are Goldenear Triton 1's and Goldenear Supercenter XXL.

I am looking at either the Titan's or the 99 series speakers.

I sit about 11' away from a 137" wide screen. My room is 12' wide, 17' deep, and 8' high.

Cinema10 owner here. I'm running them in 2-channel off of a cheap Lepai 20w amp and they sound great. They easily play louder at half volume than I can tolerate. Very clear speakers. You will need something more to boost the lows though. I'm running dual 18s in ported cabinets to boost the low end with the Cinema10s.

Thanks Craig.

Good to know that 20W will be enough.

I have 4 - 18" Ultimax's, so I'm hoping that will boost the low end a bit haha.

As for subs what are you using? If you are not looking to get more midbass then I would just go with HT or HTM series and let your subs do the work but if you want more midbass then I’d go with the Titans over the 1099.

I have 4-18" Ultimax's in 16 cu ft net enclosures. Tuned to 16.5hz.

So good question about the mid-bass. I don't really know... because I don't know what more mid-bass would be like. That might sound like a dumb answer, but I guess more mid bass couldn't hurt...

Would the mid's and high's sound about the same between the HTM, 99's and Titan's?

Makes sense that the Titan's would have the most mid-bass.

There are some guys on here that can answer that question better than I can. I have the QSC 2150s similar time the titans but with dual 15s in each and they can put out a ton of midbass in a baffle wall design which the titans do not have to be in but the QSCs are meant to be in a baffle wall. I know it’s a tough decision, if you are happy with the bass output then you don’t need the titans (that’s the ones I would go with lol). The 1099 are a little sharp but sound amazing, the titans are a perfect HT speaker and you will not have to upgrade again.

Wow! Nice Setup! I actually just pulled up your build thread. I'm going to read it.

Well then, if the Titan's are end game HT speakers, then I think that's my answer haha.

I would really like to hear them. Or any DIYSG.

Hopefully someone will chime in if they know of anyone around me that would be willing for me to take a listen.

I appreciate the advice.

@JMAX2016 ;

Just want to point out, since it wasn't mentioned in this thread before...

Golden Ear speakers have a character "sound" that they are designed for. they are not designed to play flat/neutral in other words. Most of the DIY Soundgroup stuff is targeting a fairly neutral response, and to folks coming from B&W, GoldenEar, Polk, the sound character is definitely different. Not that any of the speakers mentioned are good or bad, but different. Hopefully you can find somewhere to listen first.

I haven't heard any DIY Soundgroup stuff myself, but based on other's characterizations and comparisons to some speakers I do know, I'd trust they are good speakers and sound good. That said, they are definitely different with the Controlled Directivity designs in the way they interact with a room, and can come across as "bright" to folks coming from more "laid back" speakers like what Sandy Gross designs (e.g. - GoldenEar). All that is said to give some context as to what to listen for and expect when you find some...

I think there are some AVS'ers in the Pittsburgh area for sure, though that's a haul for ya... Where's Philly to represent in here? :)

(I'll even forgive all you Eagles fans... )

I swear if the HT/HTM's were half the price, i'd build a pair just for the heck of it...

I am also in York PA and I have been thinking about these for a while... I thought I had a deal on a set but the guy ghosted me.

I would like to hear a set too before committing.

If you get desperate, pack up your PA crew and drive up to MI. You can hear my titan 630lx’s driven with a clone amp. Plus, you’ll hear the volt 10’s, volt6’s, and my living room setup. Soon to be 893’s. And 4 NSW’s, 2 hst 18’s, 2 SI ds4’s in the theater.
