I just happened to notice the other day that my DISH PVR can output in 16:9 mode. I've never needed this before since I was using a regular old CRT TV, but now that I've got my X1, I could use this mode. Is there any advantage to doing this? I can't imagine there is, unless non-HDTV NFL broadcasts are secretly being done in anamorphic mode.

I've got my DSS reciever set to 16x9 mode.. what it does is put in vertical pillars to the sides of the video data.. so that you get 4x3 on a 16x9 screen. Pretty nifty, and much more watchable, IMO, than a full size 4x3 image.
