Are you interested in an LF screen? If we can get enough people in the same time frame, maybe we can talk MM into visiting us in Dallas to show us the techniques.
Yep. ...It should be a short hop for MM to get up here just get some beer and pizza.:D

I'll officially put myself down for spot #1. Just send me a PM if you are interested in filling spots 2-5 and when we get enough I'll shoot MM a note and get this ball rolling.

Argh, I won't be ready to go the PJ route for at least another year or 2, but I'd love to be able to see somebody's LF in action here in DFW once somebody/MM gets them made. If anybody could bear to have me over for a looksee, please PM me. Thanks.

Forgive my ignorance here. I know what an LF screen is but no nothing about the dynamics of having MM come to town and exactly what he's going to do for us.

I'm using an epson home 10+ LCD projecting onto a ~75" diag blackout cloth screen from about 8 feet. Is a LF screen going to kick the crap out of my BO cloth screen with this setup and if so...what kinda of money are we talking about here?

I might be interested in this depending on the cost and the amount of work involved. I'm pretty happy with my BO cloth screen but I've seen those LF shots and it does indeed look ...well...really nice. I just ruled out an LF due to the amount of work..lack of a spray rig or the skill to weild it...etc.

What exactly would happen if MM comes to dallas?

Thanks!!!

I'm in Dallas and would be interested. The time factor doesnt bother me but the price does. If it could be done relatively inexpensive I wouldnt mind seeing the results. I've got a dalite high-power right now with an infocus x1. i probably wouldnt change unless it would yield good results and wouldnt be too pricy. right now im fairly unhappy with my viewing cone and off-axis brightness. i am looking to get a new sccreen but I just havent found the right solution. Maybe this is it

It wouldn't be too expensive. Probably less than a cheap pull down screen after all is said and done. (and easily be 60" x 107"

Not that easy...Bunker is a manufaturer, so we need to call a retailer. They (Bunker Plastics) recommended Regal Plastics. After calling Regal I pretty much decided to go against it due to price, freight and some other bogus charge, and tax. After buying the acrylic mirror and painting materials, almost 0.5 G's, I'd be better off buying screen material from a screen manufacturer.

i've managed to make myself happy with my hi-power. i've floor mounted my projector and now the viewing cone seems non-existent as i walk around. i would still be interested in the LF if somebody can conjure something up, and if it makes it cheaper by having an extra person go in on some kinda deal then im willing. shoot me an e-mail if somebody finds a way to do this, but at the price listed above (or anything close to it) you can count me out. which kinda sucks because i was still keeping this open as a possibility.

wanna bet?

You chief complaints are easily resolved if even 3-4 of you Dallas-ites get together

I now have a personal business arraingement with Bunker the superceedes all those nasty prices and charges.

State your desired size and if goint it alone, if you can PU the piece instead of delivery.

I'll be in Dallas at their Plant 2 weekends from now. Big doings afoot.

If anybody would bother to email me, they would be enlightened as to just how "Not Expensive" it can be. Best of all, I can arrainge for the Mirrors to be produced with an excellent Pressure sensitive adheasive on the back. No More Glue!

Want a price example?

5' x 10' cut to 107" x 60" & w/ PSA Backing? = $220.00

No hidden charges either.

Compare that with your previous quote.

.5 Gs indeed. That would stifle anybody's desire a little, but the end result would still be far better than a comparably priced Mfg screen so I don't see the problem or hesitation really.

What about me up in Des Moines, IA MM? I have PM'd you the other day, I can drive about 4 hours to Minneapolis to GE Ploymers and get one for $168, is that a good deal? I would like 60" x 107". I've called Regal and a few other Plastic houses in my area, and the norm is 4' x 8' Everything else is special with other charges.....dang...maybe the SM/MM wall fusion screen is my only option....

I'll check for you with Bunker and relate via email / PM

PS,

BTW, Thanks for you small show of humor on that 'other' thread. I won't give it any more creedence than it deserves, which is none. Don't humor them. They are only looking to keep that crap thread active for harrasment value. Don't help then do so.

Can you imagine someone posting a thread on the DIY Forum that tells everyone thier DIY efforts are senseless, and thinking they have a right to dictate who can post on it? If a Post is abusive or off topic, things can / should be done. If telling someone not to post was a viable option, believe me, it would be done all the time. Whose Forum is it anyway?

The MississippiMan-less thread was really just a posted insult, with no other subject or purpose but offering up a spot for abuse. The Mods should respond accordingly, and the thread starter and the willing responders need to go back to thier own forum.

All the more that Robert and a few others try to trash the DIY forum with thier unwelcome presence and abusive posts, they only prove either how worried, frustrated, or completely clueless they are. They are only trying to convince themselves of thier own net worth, which with every ridiculous post makes that worth plumit into a sub-zero status.

And BTW, by complaining about how one or two people that are helping others are taking over a Forum that was started for exactly the purpose of promoting DIY applications, (..most with "House Paint" mind you...) they really show thier true feelings, Envy and jealousy. To witt; Were are the "Thousands of posts" their threads should generate?

Accusing me or anyone of advocating any DIY application over another is a stupid statement. Of course, anybody with a application that they consider workable is going to advocate it's use. otherwise, posts would read,

"I tried this out and liked it a lot, but I'm sure you all have something better so please ingnore this post."

Of course this post should attract the pests as well, since what they preach is never what they practice.

They are hardly worth the time it takes to post.

Thanks MM, I know your busy, and I do appreciate your help, not like a few rotten eggs on this site. Everything you, CMRA, and Scoob5555(wherever he is) have contributed and furnished to me to create my SM/MM Wall screen is much appreciated. I've tested some smaller samples up Light Fusion with MM on top and so far I am very impressed. Once, I practice my HVLP spraying skills some more, and find a source for larger mirrored plexi, I probably will get sucked into the twilight zone of LF.

One question, you may have missed up above on this thread is that my HVLP has a 1.8mm tip. Can I use that if I don't dilute the MM as much as you stated for a 1.4-1.6mm tip?

I"m anxious to hear from you via PM.

peace out

Why exactly are these mirrors so expensive? On the bunker site, they show a sunglass stand with plastic mirror on it and they make it appear cheap. Does a sunglass stand with mirror all over it really cost $100?

Hopefully the holy grail hasn't been found yet and some vendor sells it for what it should cost, $20-$30 for 4x8'.

4' x 8' is more common/standard if you call around to plastic dealers. I can get acrylic mirror (mirrored plexi) in that size for under $60 bucks. My problem is that I need 5' x 9', that is harder to find. I can drive about 4 hours to a GE Polymershapes location and get one for around $150.... :) My guess is that the acrylic coating applied to the back of Clear Plexi increases the cost, you can go to Lowe, Home Depot, or Menards and buy clear plexi for a lot less, but you don't get the required reflective characteristics needed for Light Fusion.

I run an Asturo HVLP gun with a 1.9MM needle/nozle combo and I thin any latex paint with distilled water at 15-20% (roughly 5-6 ozs per quart). To shoot latex less diluted (10%) I would use a 2.2 MM N/N with my HVLP.

That's what I want to know. ;)

I'm in Dallas this coming Thursday night thru Sunday, staying at the Holiday Inn Select 5 miles from DFW

Going nosing around the Bunker Mfg Plant Friday (...its 2 1/2 Hrs east, still in Texas) , wanna see if I can get into some trouble.

But I didn't even have to go lookin' ta find the latest gem

They've just Thurday given me a real sparkler!'....made me very happy to have to tell ya all that somehow, somewhere on the dark forgotten depths of thier "Ordered but Reneged on" Dept., they've come across the Holy Grail of Light Fusion.

The biggest ass mirror ya ever did see. A whole pallet of 150+.

123" x 73" Cut to a 16:9 format, to 122' x 69' , thats 140" inches diagonal.

....and you know, being the biggest single Plastic Mirror ever rolled out, it had to turn up in the Lone Star State.

With a PSA backing applied, the price is $4.02 per Sq. Ft. (..about $250.00)

Without, $3.57 per sq. ft. ($214.20)

Man -o- Man. All you all need to do is get together, determine what size you want from Big, Much Bigger, or "Texas Size" , then round up a Straight truck or Flatbed truck and tool over to Bunker tho PU the pallet with everyone's order. No $250.00 Frieght charge, just Gas & Time.

Anyway I'm bettin' somebudy is agonna bite on that news. Big is better, and I've known many on AVS that went elseware only because they could not get a big enough Mirror.

Anybody who might be wanderin' about on Saturday can get in touch directly via the Hotel, or my cell if you PM.

Gonna Lasso me up a passel of those bigguns soon, I guar ron tee!

107" x 54" ?

122" x 69" ! :D
