Once it's set up, you never have to remove it. It has a pass-through mode where you adjust the knobs to get the prisms to allow the projector to pass the image straight through with less than 2% light drop. Another (lazy) way is to keep the lens in stretch mode and use the pj in 'window' mode which will show 16:9 stuff in the center of the screen. It's still a very good image despite being less resolution.
