I know a few weeks ago the new Pioneer Elite 52-/620/720HD sets were released for sale, in fact searching around I have even found a few places with reasonable pricing and claims to have stock.

I am curious to see if anyone has actually bought one to date, and if so what are your initial opinions??

I have looked at the PRO-710HD set, was about ready to buy it (was wifes favorite as well), and saw the PRO-720HD was about to hit the street so held back to see how the new set was in comparison.

Many thing point to the new 720 being a better set than the 710, but no real first-hand user reports to date. So figured I would ask here to see if anyone had any thoughts.. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I would hope the x20s would be better than the x10's, but I guess the opposite has probably happened before. This link:

contains a discussion that started last spring about the new models, which features incremental improvements including a better line doubler and a fix to the lock-on-full problem. I'm sure there are more improvements.

I believe I read something about the lock-on-full problem being fixed in the 2001 x10 models as well, but this would be something to check.

I would think that the x10s would be cleared off as the x20s come out, which could mean some good deals; but I have always tended toward buying the newer technology.

Agreed, that I would expect the 720HD to be the better unit, but like you said with the 20's out, I am sure there will be deals to be found on the 10's. I don't remember which site off the top of my head, but I saw one online retailer selling both, and the 710 was about $800 cheaper than the 720.

Again like you I tend to buy the newer technology, as I generally hang on to my purchases a great many years unless it dies, so try and make a good choice up front to start.

Just figured in this forum, if the 720HD's were out, someone here had to have gotten one.. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I had an Elite 520 delivered by Tweeter today. The guy setting it up takes the screen out of its wrapping (why aren't they installed in the factory for protection in shipping?) and scrapes it across the fresnel screen. I'm glad I was there watching. I told the salesman that if the new one they're delivering tomorrow has to go back, the sale is over.

If I ever get to see it, I'll let you know what I think. This time, I'm leaving the screen in its box, seeing a better picture and taking my chances with the dog, who won't have access to it when I'm not home. BTW, a fingernail across the screen doesn't hurt it. I had to try. :)
