October was the date given by Sony when the set was introduced at CES. I've heard nothing different since.

hmm, almost makes me wish i could afford to trade in my measly 36 inch XBR400 http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

280 pounds?!!! holy junk! if only i had a cabinet that would hold that beast too...

what significant features were added to this set over the 400 series besides the extra size option and 3:2 pull down? and what good is the tv being able to do 3:2 pull down if you can get a progressive dvd player to do it instead? or is it usefull just for progressive players that don't have the 3:2 pull down feature?

I have already finished the plans for my new built-in entertainment center, curiously the measurements for the TV cutout are exactly the same as this product,so I guess I am playing the waiting for Sony to release game.October is only 90 days away....

Aside from the added 3:2 feature, it has an improved remote control (minor improvements). The 3:2 pulldown feature is a nice addition considering that the XBR450 (32" and 36" versions) is being sold for the same price that the XBR400 versions were (in the same size ranges), so new purchasers of the XBR line essentially get that feature for free. To those who already have a XBR400, it is easier to just get a progressive scan DVD player than it is to get the XBR450. What I am wondering is, is there any benefit to viewing the XBR450 when watching Non-DVD sources? If so, then maybe the XBR450 is more of an improvement than I thought.

Sony has a 16:9 widescreen flat picture tube ("Wega") (?), namely the KW34HD1, which is an HDTV. I have one and I'm very pleased. They are now available at a discounted price of about $4000. A new model is expected in the fall, the KW34XBRsomething, which is supposedly a second generation HDTV, which should be even better.

I saw the 40" at J&R in New York in late August. They were taking phone orders too. I was disappointed, especially since the unit was apprently set up by Sony techs who were also on site that day. They used a sony 700 dvd and their own disk, prog mode was the input source. What made the unit seem disappointing was that right next to it was the 36"xbr 16:9 that was being fed a Direct TV signal. The techs were puzzled. Maybe the tube manufacturing is not right yet, they said. So,I would see a demo before you lug the unit home. It is close to 300 pounds.

THE 40XBR700 IS HERE. Flagstaff's local hi-end sony dealer got 2 in yesterday. Both were pre-orders for retail price.

Phoenix's Jerrys audio also got a few this week. Most of theses were also sold.
