Anyone have experience with optical to coax converters?

I just bought one, and evidently, it doesn't work.

Did I just get a defective one, or could their be a compatibility issue?

Hooking Sony TV via optical to coax converter to my SonyES AVR. Couldn't get it to work, and thought maybe coax length was an issue (33ft), so I yanked it and inserted it between my DVD player and AVR with a 1 meter coax. Same deal-no workie. I know for a fact the optical out of the DVD is good, because if I plug it into the AVR, I get audio. I know the coax input on the AVR is good because that is how I did have my DVD hooked up and never had a problem.

Thanks for any input.

You may have a converter that only works one way but not the other,Partsexpress.com carries them....
Thanks for the reply; your the only 1 in 40 views!

I did get it from parts express, and its the correct converter: optical -> coax.

I think its just defective; I hope so anyway. I will exchange it and see what happens.

After this debacle, I was a little worried about my Oppo player I just got today not working with my TV since I have a total of 34ft of HDMI cable; 25 in wall, thru 2 HDMI wall plates, and a 3 ft jumper on one end, and the 6 foot DVI to HDMI cable supplied by Oppo on the other.

But, to my surprise, it worked PERFECTLY, so I can only hope when I exchange the converter it will work too.
