Anyone have the Sony MEX BT5000 head unit!...Annoying problem i cant solve...

The unit is GREAT i must say, but the biggest problem i have with it is the fact that the volume between playing the radio and the CD is GIGANTIC, CD's are so much louder when i play them, and im afraid that im going to blow the speakers when switching to CD from radio(Ive done it already a few times and if they were pushed anymore they were toasted), the only rememdey so far ive found is to turn the volume down before switching to the radio.

It seems like the "loud" function we all know of is activated for the cd player but not for the radio, I have searched through all the settings and cannot find any loud setting or anything like it. EQ settings for both the radio and cd source are the same.

any ideas?

I can attest to the same problem with my last 2 Sony head units. I currently have a CDX-F7715X in my daily driver and it does the same thing. It actually seems that the radio volume is low rather than the CD volume being high. When I listen to XM the volume is on par with the CD volume. I can't remember the model number of the Sony it replaced, but same story (minus the XM as that was a recent addition.) I just turn the volume down when I switch. Annoying yes, but I haven't found a way around it.

thanks, I know to stop looking for the answer via the settings then, I wonder if it has to deal with the internal amp on the unit?, I wonder if an external would solve the problem

Both head units have been hooked up to the same external amp. Actually never thought to try using the internal amp to see if it made any difference.
