Anyone heard what's happening with Fox?

They delayed every single title they announced earlier this year and so far haven't re-announced any updates on when we can expect them. I was looking forward to quite a few of the mentioned titles.

Anyone heard anything by chance?

There are rumored release dates begining June through August floating around the net for titles like:

Mr and Mrs Smith

Thomas Crown Affair

Master and Commander

Man On Fire

Cast Away

.... however nothing official from Fox yet.

Depeding on who you believe, Fox and Disney have taken a wait n' see approach due to attach rates being low, esp. on catalog titles. We'll see newer titles and maybe some catalogues like Potc1and2 to coincide with a series movie release but the rest of the titles they'll likely wait util either more players are in circulation or attach rates go up enough. In the end, the overall volume of disc sales is slow compared to the number of players (including PS3) out there.

As high def fans may have noticed, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has pretty much pulled out of the high definition race by indefinitely postponing all their previously scheduled Blu-Ray releases and offering up only the occasional one or two day and date discs, such as last week's 'Night At The Museum.'

The studio has repeatedly cited delays in the production for these postponements but to be honest, I do not believe that for a minute. Of course, the studio will never publicly admit to pulling high definition support - after all it is a publicly traded company - and thus production delays are the typical damage-control excuse that have been used by studios for decades.

My take on this situation is that Fox is taking a wait and see stance here, that could have two reasons.

Technically Fox has released several titles that they announced early this year but most of them have been delayed with no new dates given for when they will be released. There were a few exceptions to that though such as Eragon and Night at the Museum.

The most likely explanation is that the successful hacking which occurred with several software players for both HD formats caused Fox to delay many of their Blu-ray titles until they can start using the new AACS keys and BD+. The new AACS keys will require updates to the software players that were hacked and BD+ is supposed to improve the copy protection on Blu-ray discs. Also Fox is not alone in caring about copy protection and Studio Canal, a HD DVD supporting studio in Europe, delayed many of their HD DVD titles to wait for the new AACS keys as well.
They better hurry up and give us From Hell and X-Men 1 and 2 already!!!
Its the copy protection being updated. Among other things.

I support BR also. Wanna come over and watch Pirates 1 and 2 when they come out?

Sorry about that than. Last I checked you were an exclusive HD DVD supporter so I jumped the gun on what I thought you were saying with your earlier post.

Its' cool. I've had a PS3 since last Nov. The delayed fox and disney titles really annoy me as I was REALLY wanting The Rock.
So does anyone know if any releases on either format have used the new AACS keys yet? I trust they never fined cyberlink or windvd? In that last sentence "they" is whichever body would levy the fines; would that be AACS LA?
I heard they might be going format neutral. They released that movie PATHFINDER:

LEGEND OF THE GHOST WARRIOR, which had a $60 million + budget, over a month ago and it has not been able to even break the $10 million dollar mark. IMHO they are probably hurtin in the bank and they probably are going to try to sell their company. The fact that this one movie is flopping like a fat chick in a pool means that potential buyers will not be interested in buying them. With that said, it is likely that they will start selling movies on HD-DVD to generate a revenue. Even a modest revenue of $50 million dollars would make their company much more appealing to shoppers.

IMHO, FOX releasing on HD-DVD is clearly in their future.

Hope this isn't considered plagerism

I'm sure it was a joke about somebody making assumptions like that about Universal, based on "Georgia Rule" doing poorly. I thought it was pretty funny in light of the other thread.

Fox are doing rather better than Universal in recent years:

From 2006:

Night at the Museum Fox $250,603,633

X-Men: The Last Stand Fox $234,362,462

Ice Age: The Meltdown Fox $195,330,621

Borat Fox $128,505,958

The Devil Wears Prada Fox $124,740,460

And Universal?

The Break-Up Uni. $118,703,275

Oh dear. Your argument is weak old man!

I don't really think I like the Alien movies enough to rebuy them unless Fox removes their stupid SPECIAL EDITION watermarks from the extended versions of Aliens and Alien 3. Oh, and they need to fix some audio issues with Alien 3. As for Predator, I'd probably buy them depending on the video quality.

Oh, and ID4 would look fantastic on HD.

That's all that matters.

I believe this. The story I heard is that Fox is the most paranoid studio regarding piracy, which is why they insisted on BD+ being included in the specs. I wonder if the AACS crack from last December made them hit the panic button.

What watermarks?
