They seem to be sold out everywhere. I'm trying to find one for a friend who already has the Wii Fit software but not the board yet. Thanks everyone.

Ew. If there's one accessory I would never buy used, it's the one that is guaranteed to have had some anonymous fat person's sweaty feet all over it.

Which is why if one were to get a used Balance Board, one would also want to invest in a NEW silicone skin for it. And perhaps a can of industrial strength Lysol.

One of my local Target stores a had a few new copies of Wii Fit Plus w/ the Board (and a Jillian Michaels workout game) for $99 the other night.

I remember reading somewhere that Nintendo wasn't releasing the Balance Board by itself; therefore, it only comes bundled with the software. If your friend picked up the Wii Fit software, perhaps he or she can grab a Wii Fit Plus bundle. I think used is the only route for getting the board by itself.

Why on earth would somebody have the Wii Fit software and not the board? Additionally, Wii Fit is obsolete as hell now. Once they become available again, tell your friend to buy the standard Wii Fit Plus bundle for the normal $99.

Looking at Amazon prices of $150, I'd say that everyone that got a Wii for Christmas is now picking up the Balance Board a month later. You'll probably see regular stock of Wii Fit again in a month or two.

You answered your own question. People who already had Wii Fit are buying WF Plus at $20 and selling or trading in their copy of the original game. Some folks then mistakenly buy the original game without the board.

Curiously, some folks get grossed out at the thought of using someone else's Balance Board, but don't think twice about using someone else's Wiimote.

In all probability, the board has had less intense use, and probably by someone with socks on. Yes, socks can be disgusting, too.

OTOH, that Wiimote has been in multiple hands, hands that have picked and wiped noses; reamed out ear canals; scratched butts and crotches; eaten peanut butter, chocolate, and chips; been spat upon, sneezed upon, and belched upon; held and wiped body parts while urinating and defecting, usually without washing afterward; and sweated all over the Wiimote during intense play.

So, I find it a lot easier to keep the Balance Board clean than the Wiimote, and generally feel better about using someone else's board more than the controller. Yep, this is kind of off-thread, but I'm just saying...

I see used boards on craigslist fairly regularly, and as has been noted, GamesStop is worth a call. As people fall off the Wii Fit Plus wagon and abandon New Years resolutions, the supply should pick up.
