I'm wondering what your experience was and what to expect as far as wait time. Did they only offer to repair, or replace? My unit after about a month of use has begun to whine too loudly to be enjoyable anymore. I also feel that it is producing much more heat than should be normal, even when powered off. Lastly, the audio monitor button on the remote that is used to switch between dd and dts audio tracks is not working anymore (not the remote's fault, it worked at one time and every other button works, but I think the device's ability to switch audio tracks has crashed). What a bummer, this was a really fun experience while it lasted. You'd think something this expensive would be better made, and unfortunately I only read the horror stories on this board after I'd already made the purchase.

JVC is likely to repair the VCR although it may be replaced by a new one or refurbished model at their discretion. I have a HM-DH30000U purchased in March that is currently at the Aurora, IL facility and spoke with them about it yesterday. My experience indicates it may take a few weeks before you get it fixed. I would call the JVC NJ office for instructions where to send it. You will want to make a copy of your receipt and insert it in your box to speed things along. You might call:

973-317-5000 or

800-537-5722

The 973 number seems to have gotten me through to a real person quicker but that may not be anything more than just a coincidence. Ext 5582 Marek, 5235 Carmelito, and 5569 Tony have all received messages from me regarding my problems and one of them responded to my voice mail with instructions although I don't remember which one.

If you purchased it from a local store that has a return and exchange policy in effect that would be the least painful. Regarding your comments about reliability, I believe the 40000 is far better than the 30000 but I guess only time will tell. JVC consumer VCRs are a bit fragile but I own several and take my chances with them because I like the features and picture quality. Perhaps Mitsubishi VCRs are better made but most consumer VCRs are junk now.
