Anyone running with an 8.1 setup?

Just curious, is anyone running with an 8.1 setup? If so, how are you doing it? With what gear?

I posted in the speaker forum regarding the dedicated HT setup in my new home and the responses have me thinking about an 8.1 setup primarily because the placement of the back channel speakers aren't ideal for 7.1 (on the sides right behind the second row of HT seats). I can add an 8th channel up and behind the back row of seats.

Thanks

The back channel speakers in 7.1 do not go on the sides in the back. They go behind the listening position. Do a search.

There is no reason whatsoever to attempt an 8.1 setup at this time. There is no material, processing, or even standardized positioning.

Afaik, the center clustered back speakers only goes if one applies the right THX processing.

Dolby's website shows the standard positioning for speakers .

OP, BTW, adding another speaker doesn't make an 8.1 setup. The X.X designation refers to the number of channels of information, not speaker count.

I was a little bit curious myself but provided the link anyway. I guess I should be more thorough next time.

Thanks, so it's 7.1 with 4 side surrounds. Are there any issues with using 4 side surrounds, each pair just a little above and behind the stadium seat levels?

Thanks for the help.

FYI, I did do a search, that's how I found out the rear speaker positioning in my setup was wrong. Now I'm trying to optimize the setup given my constraints.
