I was trying to get some info on the Samsung HLK-506W which

is supposed to be a LCD projection TV. Samsung has been

postponing the release for the past 18 months. Their latest

date is July 2001. They seem to have had a demo in Soundtrack sometime ago. Has anyone seen this piece?

How does it compare to plasma? It is supposed to be able to do 720p. The price seems to be comparable to the best projection TVs. Any thoughts on this?

I haven't seen the Samsung, but many of the LCD based front projectors I've seen in the stores have a very noticable pixel structure that I find irritating.

What other LCD based front projectors have you seen? Samsung claims that they are the first to use this technology.

Its a reflective LCD (otherwise known as LCOS (Liquid

Crystal over Silicon)) design like the JVC D-ILA and the

RCA L50000. There isn't any "screen door" effect because

there is very little space between pixels. I have seen

two prototype LCOS RPTVs at a local outfit working

on such things, and they look really good. Really can't

vouch for Samsung, but to make any assumptions about

the Samsung HLK-506W based on the performance of

transmissive LCD projectors would be a mistake.
