Has anyone tried to get a USB IR receiver dongle to work with the PS3 for reception of universal remote commands?

There is a thread on here somewhere that talks about this. You can use an old PS2 DVD Remote that came with the Dongle (the new ones don't because the new PS2's have the IR eye built in).


People have gotten the basic commands to work for the blu-ray, but I don't think it is a perfect fix, but at least you can play movies. I don't think you can use the other functions like the angle options and such.


I am in the same boat with the 880. I know you can pick the old remotes up at EB Games and Gamestop for like $5, I just haven't been able to find one yet.

I plugged in a regular USB->IR dongle and no go. It was powered, but it didn't react because the PS3 didn't have the drivers.


Went out to GameStop and picked up a PS2 remote/receiver and got the Rat Shack USB to PS2 converter. Works because the PS3 sees it as a controller.

Is the USB to PS2 converter the same thing as the memory card adapter?
