My HD1000 is due to arrive on Tuesday, and I want to buy an upconvert player by then. I'm pretty sure I'll get the Pan. S52, and I'm wondering if anyone is using this combo and your thoughts? If so, are you using HDMI or component? Which input looks better with the HD1000? Thanks.

What RCA are you talking about? There's no RCA upconverter on their website anyway.

Sorry about that. It was the Panasonic S52S for $70. Online only. Could have sworn I saw an rca the other day. I might try this one out since I've still got 50 bucks from christmas on a gift card.

I have a Panny S52S but I'm using it on an HD70. I really like the picture and I use it to upconvert DVD's to 720p. I haven't checked to see if the projector does a better job of upscaling as I am quite pleased with the picture. I know a lot of people on here have mentioned trouble playing XViD and DiVX files, but I have had no trouble with these at all.

Does anyone know if the S52 will upscale to 720p over component or just the hdmi?

I have this player with the HD1000. I think it looks better using the HDMI out set to 720P. Not a night and day difference though. I'm using the component out right now since I don't have an HDMI switch and I'm using the HDMI for my HD Tivo. So it's not easy form me to do direct comparisons at the moment.


The S52 as well as any upconverting DVD player is limited up to 480P out over component.

lol.. perfect response. I thought I was loosing it there for a second. So, in the opinion of HD1000U and S52 owners, if you can run HDMI, do you see a significant difference in picture quality over standard 480p players?
