I just sent the 981 back. I have a Mit ws-55513, handshake issue between the 2. When it gets back they will try it and see if its the Oppo's fault. I installed the latest beta firmware.

Does anyone have an Oppo and a RPTV Mitsubishi that works ok through HDMI/DVI?

If someone has tried the 2 together and they do or do not work, it would save me time and trouble of trying another one.

Thanks

No one???...Good, I hope that means it should work. Hopefully its that particualr player and not the whole Oppo line.

I currently use an Oppo DV970HD with my Mitsubishi 52" DLP TV using the included HDMI cable from Oppo. No problems with this combo since day one.

Thanks for the responce slbenz. But I have a CRT RPTV. I was wondering if anyone with this tv had any problems.

I know the DLP and the Plasma and LCD, have no known handshake issues. But you dont hear much from CRT RPTV owners. I just wanted to know if it is the player or will Oppo just not work with my style tv.

Yes using DVI and upconverting to 1080i

Then hopefully it was that particular unit and not the whole Oppo line-up.

The 981 I had to send back is HDMI so I had to buy a HDMI/DVI cable. I wonder if that was the problem. The 971 is DVI. But the cable shouldnt make a difference. The cable just reasigns the same pins.

All you need for your TV (rptv) is a DVI connection. The 971 would work best for your

TV.

Besides not doing audio, DVI also doesn't do any of the hand-shake stuff right? It's more than just pin assignment - there are fewer pins!
If you can still return that cable, the 971 looks like your best bet. And some people have had luck when ordering right from Oppo, to get which ever cable they needed (HDMI - DVI, etc) at no charge.

Quank, I was going for the 971 but it doesnt have SACD, which is why I'm changing players in the first place. I thought the 981's price and specs were perfect for me. I might end up going with the 970 even though its not the best player for CRT RPTVs. But without the Faroudja chip issues, it might be better than the Denon 1910 I have now.

I did return the cable adapter and bought another cable with all of the pins. I noticed that DVI adapter had 18 pins...the new cable has 24, but the 6 extra pins in the middle, are used for video 2. I don think that would make a difference.. Mike @ surfaudio, hasnt got back with me yet on the statis of the player I sent back... I'll wait and see what he says.

Thanks

Jake
