Anyone with Intel Mini and Westy 37" LCD? (or other 1080p panel)

Wondering if anyone has the combination of on the Intel Mini's and a Westinghouse 37" (or larger) 1080p LCD. I'm considering this combo, but wanted to confirm how well the 2 played together over DVI, and what resolutions were available (I'd run native most of the time, but many games change to other resolutions).

Thanks,

Mike

I'll try it out for you tomorrow, I've got my core duo hooked up to the TV in my living room and haven't had a chance to hook it up to the Westy yet. Been meaning to, this will give me an excuse to :)

I'm very interested in this as well. I was visiting the Apple Store today and was fantasizing about how nice a quiet mini would be compared to my large, somewhat loud htpc.
That is my set up. Had a core duo driving the Westy 37" for 2 months now. Recognizes 1080P on boot. No problems whatsoever (after switching out a bad DVI cable). Used 1024X? a bit. Looked OK, not great.

Gotta love Macs.
I am considering a Sceptre 1080P TV with mac mini. Has anyone had any experience with Sceptres?

I have the x42 Sceptre with a Mini Core Duo and an EyeTV 500. No problems of any kind except for the Dolby Digital problem with EyeTV. If you get a mac and your display is at some distance from your seating, be sure to check out the Universal Access Zoom feature to make the desktop visible from a distance. If I'm half paying attention to something on TV, I will put it in a window on the desktop and surf at the same time. There is no way I could be happier with this setup. A 1080p display, intel mac mini, and EyeTV 500 are a match made in heaven, or maybe China.
Thanks Dick. I finally finished the entire Sceptre 37inch thread. I am now starting the 42 inch thread. I am glad you like it with the mini.

Do you have any experience with other HDTVs so that you can compare quality?

I like the idea of a native 1080P display hooked up to my Mac Mini, but I am still thinking that for watching HDTV, a Sharp LCD or Panasonic Plasma or something else might be produce better quality.

If you're going to consider plasma, I think you owe it to yourself to look at the NEC line. I'm biased as I own a 50" 50XR5A, but they really are great displays.

Here is the owner's thread:

Feel free to PM me and ask any specific questions, and if you'd like a demo, I'd be more than happy to oblige. I already have a PC, but should be picking up a Mini or iMac tonight or tomorrow morning.

I have a Panny TH37PD25U.. and I love the pic for video, but with only 852x480 native res, even by lying to the Mini and using utils to produce a 1704x960 desktop image (which the TV downscales to fit by throwing out 3/4 pixels) (yes it sound silly but since I can't shrink the System interface this is how I get more usable space). The image is usable, but ugly. I can't say how it would be on the PX series. But as a dual-use, I think LCD has the edge, at least until/if plasma goes 1080p.

I hesitate to post a 1/2 megapixel shot of a 2 megapixel screen, because the text is actually very sharp to the eye. I think that LCD vs PDP is a personal preference, but I don't think anything less than 1080p is a good idea if you want to use it as a monitor on a non casual basis. However, Frontrow might be ok.

Canon S1IS, F3.1 1/20 sec, ISO 50.
That NEC plasma looks nice, but it is probably a little more than I want to spend right now.

I want to drive my display with my Mac Mini. My main use will be watching HDTV recordings from my EyeTV 500. So my primary concern is how good it looks being driven by the mac. I don't intend to use it much at all for traditional uses, such as email or web browsing.

So in my case will I actually benefit from a 1080P display at this point? Down the road I might wan to move the display to a bedroom or somesuch when I replace it. Thus having support for clear QAM is very desirable to me. That is one reason I was looking at a Sceptre.
