This is where I currently have my crt tv which will be replaced with the projector screen, the only negative I can think of would be the console lights, but I could make light shields over the displays or get a rack with smoke glass or something.

Anybody else have there av console under their screen?

The only negative aspect of having equipment on the front wall is that the lights can be annoying like you mentioned. Dim/turn off the displays or slap some smoke glass and you should be golden.

I'm with the Fatman - no reason you can't put the components there, but they are a distraction.

Better, get them behind you.

Best, get them out of the room all together!

Thanks for the advice. After relooking the room design, I can place the rack on the left side of the room, and only have to rewire 3 speakers to accomodate the new AV location. Now I can place the rack behind the sitting area as well but then I would need to get something like that IR repeater that was mention so I don't have to shoot the remote from behind..

If you want them in the front (like I do) I recommend building door "frames" and covering with GoM fabric. Also allows for better ventilation than solid doors or glass. I only used a single layer and lights still show thru (similar to smoked glass) but it doesn't bug me. However, I did test double thickness which does block the lights while still letting the IR through. No repeater required!

A few thoughts.......

Equipment up front with cloth doors typically presents problems due to heat. Cloth doors may be better then solid wood but only marginally, nothing to promote air movement.

If you vent pulling air in, the cloth doors turn into filter, works great but looks like a used filter in no time. If you blow air theres no filter effect, works great, but then you could raise the temp of the room. Venting lower front is not as easy as venting side or back built-in cabinet or even better, closet.

Where have you decided to place the subs? I try to keep my subs away from my rack when ever possible.

Then there's the distraction thing.....looks great during Star Wars and a few others but for everyday use......Plus equipment up front makes it look like a demo room.

Just one mans opinion ..... Mark
