Noticed this Apex 4:3 HDTV over at Amazon. Says that it is shipped free so the price will be $1149.99 + tax. I'm not sure if they make a 16:9 version (and don't really care) that just seemed like a pretty low price on a HDTV.

Does anyone have any info on these? I'm guessing that they are junk. But if they are getting their parts from someone else they might not be bad. Should be good for competition though!

Actually, they do have a 55" 16:9 model at $1399. Seems like a lot of TV for the money, not sure about the specifics.

Like I said though, with the Apex brand I'm thinking it's junk?

A local store is advertizing a GB-5108, no brand name specificed, EDTV (480P max) rear projection set for $899. Spec'ed at 51" in 4:3 format. From the picture, it looks like is says APEX on the front bezel. Haven't checked it out yet.

Checked around and found that this thing is selling everywhere for $900 or less, even from Walmart.

Here are some specs:

Large 51" Screen w/ 480p Progressive Scan

2D Y/C (4 line) Comb Filter w/ Velocity Scan Modulation

Stereo Reception w/ BBE Sound Enhancement

Picture-In-Picture (PIP) Multi-Channel Preview

Digital Convergence w/ 4 Selectable Picture Modes (Normal, Theater, Soft, Personal)

2nd Surface Mirror w/ Built-In Protective Screen Shield

2 Component Video Inputs (YCbCr / YPbPr) w/ 2 S-Video Inputs & 1 RF Input

2 Rear / 1 Front AV Inputs w/ Dual Antenna Jack & Variable Audio Output

Trilingual On-Screen Display (English, Spanish, French) w/ Closed Caption Display & V-Chip

Dimensions: 43" x 22" x 56" (W/D/H)

Weight: 155 lbs

A couple of simple user reviews on Amazon were positive. If it were decent in anyway, it would be an interesting alternative why waiting for DLP, LCD, Plasma, LCOS, etc sets to come down in price.

But my experience with cheap APEX direct-view sets hasn't been good.
