Apollon Audio custom Class D Amplifiers

I searched the forums and did not see an official thread so I thought I'd start a thread for Apollon Audio.

Apollon Audio hand builds custom premium Class D amplifiers. The founder's name is Tibor Marksel. Tibor is an audio and mastering engineer from the recording industry.

I stumbled across Apollon during my research to find a powerful amplifier to feed my JTR 215 RT towers. Although they are very efficient, these beasts will take up to 2000 watts of power and can dip down below 4 ohms. It is difficult to find traditional and affordable Class A/B amps that can dish out this much power.

After searching the internet I stumbled across a Hypex module call the NC2K that will deliver 2500 watts into 4 ohms and 2000 watts into 2 ohms. A select few companies use this module to build amplifiers and Apollon was one. Tibor builds a premium Monoblock amplifier called the PNC2K that has upgraded modules, a linear power supply, a Weiss OP Amp and a few other custom upgrades. I have emailed him about a million times asking many questions and have been surprised at how quickly he responds. He is quite patient and detailed. A nice trait of many ID companies that I have also discovered from wondering on these fine threads. I confess I have never spoken live to Tibor but whoever is on the other end of my emails must never sleep.

I just placed my order for 3 Apollon PNC2k monoblocks to feed my 3 JTR 215 RT towers. Since Apollon is scarcely mentioned and not very well-known I thought I'd share my experience. I will have more details to share as I go through the process.

In the meantime check out Apollonaudio.com for more info on what Tibor offers.

Beautiful looking Amps. They seem reasonably priced as well. Too bad they're in the EU, or I'd consider getting one. Shipping, exchange and duty would make it no bueno for me.

An Apollon multichannel Purifi based amp plus a Lyngdorf MP-40 2.1 is on my shopping list for the future! :D

I have been looking for some time. Was going with Emo XPR-1 to power 215 RMs, then they were discontinued. Interested in learning more about them...Thanks for sharing.

For three 31lb monoblocks my tracked and insured shipping was about $550. High but not a dealbreaker to get these 2500 watt power houses to the US.

I have had an Apollon 8350 for about 2 years and it is stilling performing very well. Slighly more expensive but better built than the Nord equivalents IMHO.

Very good to hear. I have had my Sunfire for a good 10 years or so. I'd like a good amplifier to last a very long time! Speakers and amplifiers should be lasting purchases. Would like to save my money for the latest processor upgrades as it seems they occur every year (ATMOS, HDMI 2.1, HDR). I am hoping the increased operating efficiency of these class d modules lends to a long operating life!

Apollon also seems to be one of the few with a Hypex NC2K module offering which really drew me to them.
They look nice, but from the website:

"Neotech UP-OCC 12AWG Solid Copper Speaker output wire adds more space and airiness."

I have a pair of Apollon PuriFi-based monoblocks. After listening to them for a few weeks, I sold a well-regarded AB amp with MSRP almost twice as much. It's nice to have sound I prefer, lighter weight, and more efficiency. The only thing I gave up was some unused bells and whistles (e.g., unbalanced inputs), a thick front panel, and a faint hum coming from the old amp's transformer.

I can't say whether the Apollon version sounds any different from those sold by Nord, VTV, Audiophonics, Marsh, or other fabricators. I can say that I'm quite happy with them.

Awesome Mike! Always great to be able to spend half the money and achieve something equal or better. And more efficient to boot. How long did it take for Apollon to make and ship your monoblocks?

I think it was 3-4 weeks in the queue and production, about 10 days in EU Export Customs (at the height of the pandemic), and about 5-6 days in transit from Slovenia to Portland, Oregon, including time in US Customs.

A tidbit: There is a jumper on the Apollon control board that sets brightness of the power LEDs. Anyone ordering from Apollon and who likes to listen in the dark can ask Tibor to pre-set the jumper to the dimmed position.

So glad you mentioned this. My monoblocks will be in front of a light controlled room. I will email Tibor this. Thanks!
I read that the LEDs were adjustable but could see where from the pictures...front or back.

Well I should be receiving my PNC2K monoblocks soon. Tibor has been wonderful in answering my inquiries along the way. The longest part of the process has been shipping. First they got caught in outgoing customs for many weeks. Then Tibor just gave me the heads up that they would be held by US customs unless I called UPS to answer some questions. Was just told they would be released early next week. Despite this being a long 4 months of waiting, I was thankfully in no hurry as I am still putting my theater together. The likely last pieces will be some JTR ceiling speakers and my new JVC NZ7. These final items may not arrive until November/December.

I should be able to post a listening review sometime in December, but I will try to post some pics prior.
I have been considering Apollon for awhile. I emailed them some questions awhile ago and never heard back.

Tibor is usually quite quick to respond, I would try again.
Looking forward to see some pics of these beasts when they arrive
@yosh7 - Yes, photos would be nice. I hope we'll also get your listening impressions of the PNC2K beasts.
